OBJECTIVE: To study the effectiveness of unilateral selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) on the both eyes of patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
METHODS: This was a self-controlled clinical study. Thirty-two patients of 32 eyes with OAG who used same anti-glaucoma medications for both eyes were included aat the Department of Ophthalmology Peking University third Hospital from February 2010 to April 2014. IMPORTANCE: Oklahoma is one of the few states where optometrists have surgical privileges to perform laser trabeculoplasty (LTP). Optometrists in other states are lobbying to obtain privileges to perform LTP and other laser procedures. Little is known whether outcomes of patients undergoing this procedure by optometrists are similar to those undergoing LTP by ophthalmologists.

Unilateral optic nerve aplasia is a rare, nonhereditary defect associated with anterior chamber malformations and other ocular malformations. We report the case of an 8½-week-old boy with unilateral optic nerve aplasia who was diagnosed with glaucoma on presentation with corneal edema and an intraocular pressure of 36 mm Hg. AIMS: To evaluate the efficacy of diode laser trabeculoplasty (DLT) and frequency doubled Nd : YAG laser trabeculoplasty (YLT) in primary open angle glaucoma (POAG).
METHODS: A total of 52 eyes of 35 patients with POAG were included. In all, 25 eyes underwent DLT (Group I) and 27 eyes underwent YLT (Group II). IOP, gonioscopy and visual fields were evaluated before and 3, 6, and 9 months and 1 year after the laser. PURPOSE: To describe a patient with resolved hypotony maculopathy with a persistent retinal fold (despite normalization of intraocular pressure [IOP]) who underwent successful surgical intervention by vitrectomy, internal limiting membrane peel, and gas tamponade.

BACKGROUND: Angle-closure glaucoma is a well-known sequel to syphilitic interstitial keratitis. This study describes angle-closure glaucoma in the absence of corneal opacity as a presumed presenting sign of syphilis.
CASES: Two patients presented with angle-closure glaucoma with high peripheral anterior synechiae to the level over Schwalbe's line extending the whole circumference of the angle. Neither corneal opacity nor aqueous inflammation was present. Diffuse or localized retinochoroidal degeneration with pigmentation was found in 1 eye of 1 patient and in both eyes of the other patient.

We analyzed the long-term success of argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) performed in 237 eyes of 175 patients diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma and followed for up to 11 years (maximum, 132 months) after treatment. Long-term results of trabeculotomy in juvenile primary open-angle glaucoma (JPOAG) were investigated based on a follow-up study of 16 eyes in 11 patients, diagnosed when they were between 10 and 45 years old. Preoperative visual field defects were found in 75% (12/16) of the eyes. Two patients with a history of glaucoma and a propensity for uveitis developed ciliochoroidal effusions following Nd:YAG laser posterior capsulotomy. Both patients experienced a waxing and waning course with eventual resolution of symptoms after a steroid regimen. We performed bilateral argon laser trabeculoplasty on 34 patients with medically uncontrolled open-angle glaucoma. Preoperative intraocular pressure was greater than 21 mm Hg, with a less than 3-mm Hg difference between the two eyes. Laser treatment (360 degrees) was performed on both eyes within a three-month interval. Mean (+/- S. A controlled, randomised, prospective trial of Argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT) was carried out on 48 eyes of 30 black Jamaican patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. All eyes had uncontrolled intra-ocular pressures (greater than or equal to 22 mm Hg) despite medical therapy.
