Brain basis for physical activity levels mediate beta Inhibition to improve cognitive function in elderly based on multimodality monitoring.

The ameliorative effect of regular physical activity (PA) on cognitive function (CF) in older adults has been demonstrated. However, there a … to be significantly more effective than MPA and LPA in enhancing individuals' inhibition function, cognitive flexibility, working memory, and reaction speed. This may be attributed to the increase in ERP amplitude with shorter latency and greater gray matter density in frontal and temporal lobe regions.

Large-Scale Cerebellar-Cerebral Network Alterations Underlying Impaired Social Predictive Processing in Cerebellar Neurodegeneration.

The cerebellum is a key node for detecting and adjusting social-prediction internal models. Yet social prediction has been scantly investigated in neurodegenerative cerebellar patients (CB). Thus, we examined CB social-prediction abilities and related cerebellar-cerebral networks, using tailored tasks and resting-state fMRI. Thirteen adult CB and twenty-six matched controls completed three computerized prediction tasks, where contextual priors activate specific internal models setting expectations which may influence recognition of ambiguous targets (emotion expressions, personality-traits, no

DeepGaitLab: Accurate and Flexible Markerless Motion Tracking Powered by Synthetic Data.

Scalable and accurate human motion tracking is expected to modernize the diagnosis and prognosis of gait pathologies, sports performance optimization, and human movement research at large. While recent advances in computer vision are promising, innovation has primarily focused on single-view approaches, which are convenient and could be applied to videos from commodity devices, such as smartphones. However, a range of biomedical applications require higher accuracies. Current multi-view tools either lack sufficient accuracy to justify the added burden of camera calibration or require higher-de

Health Literacy Recommendations for Digital Mental Health Treatments.

BACKGROUND: Digital mental health (dMH) treatments have garnered much attention for increasing access to treatment, yet real-world engagement with these treatments remains a challenge. In upscaling these treatments, we need to ensure that they are equitable and do not exclude groups who already experience inequities in health care, such as people with lower health literacy. OBJECTIVE: To co-develop recommendations for the design and delivery of dMH treatments for people with a variety of health literacy levels. METHODS: Drafted recommendations were based on a thematic analysis of 357 free-te

Dysregulated Cerebellar-Subcortical-Cortical Interactions in Cluster Headache: Evidence From Edge Analysis Across Three Independent Datasets.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to apply edge-centric functional connectivity and motif analyses to capture co-fluctuation communication patterns and test whether altered dynamic network integration underlies clinical manifestations of cluster headache (CH). METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 100 participants with episodic CH imaged during the in-bout period outside acute attacks and 116 healthy controls (HCs) using functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Robustness of the findings was assessed via pooled and separate analyses of 3 independent datasets using brain pa

Ojo 2-barriers and recommendations for the recruitment, retention, and implementation of remote physical activity interventions for older Latinos.

BACKGROUND: Older Latinos participate in low levels of physical activity (PA), despite it being a protective factor against chronic diseases, like Alzheimer's disease and related dementias . PA interventions, like the BAILAMOS™ dance program and ¡En Forma y Fuerte! (Fit & Strong!®) exercise program, were created to address a lack of culturally relevant PA programs for older Latinos. The COVID-19 pandemic allowed for these in-person PA interventions to be adapted for remote delivery. The Cognitive Enhancement and Risk-Reduction through Exercise for Brain-Related Outcomes study examined the feas

Transdiagnostic patient experiences of dialectical behavioural therapy: a systematic review and metasynthesis.

BACKGROUND: Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) combines cognitive-behavioural techniques and mindfulness practices to more skilfully regulate intense emotions and navigate interpersonal issues. While traditional DBT (skills group, individual therapy and crisis support) is well-studied in clinical populations, particularly for emotion regulation in conditions like borderline personality disorder or emotionally unstable personality disorder, recent research has explored alternative formats, such as skills-only groups. Although quantitative studies report positive outcomes (e.g., reduced self-in

EEG brain network variability is correlated with other pathophysiological indicators of critical patients in neurology intensive care unit.

Continuous electroencephalogram (cEEG) plays a crucial role in monitoring and postoperative evaluation of critical patients with extensive EEG abnormalities. Recently, the temporal variability of dynamic resting-state functional connectivity has emerged as a novel approach to understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying diseases. However, little is known about the underlying temporal variability of functional connections in critical patients admitted to neurology intensive care unit (NICU). Furthermore, considering the emerging field of network physiology that emphasizes the inte

Improving the Detection, Assessment, Management and Prevention of Delirium in Hospices (the DAMPen-D study): protocol for a co-design and feasibility study of a flexible and scalable implementation strategy to deliver guideline-adherent delirium care.

INTRODUCTION: Delirium is a complex condition in which altered mental state and cognition causes severe distress and poor clinical outcomes for patients and families, anxiety and stress for the health professionals and support staff providing care, and higher care costs. Hospice patients are at high risk of developing delirium, but there is significant variation in care delivery. The primary objective of this study is to demonstrate the feasibility of an implementation strategy (designed to help deliver good practice delirium guidelines), participant recruitment and data collection. METHODS A

Protocol for project MIME: Motivation, inflammation, and Mood in Emerging Adults.

BACKGROUND: Atypical inflammatory biology is gaining evidence as a risk factor for mood psychopathology; however, little work has attempted to integrate inflammation into extant psychosocial frameworks of risk. Recent work using secondary data analysis has investigated the possibility of an immunocognitive model of mood disorders, in which cognitive vulnerabilities (i.e., rumination on positive or negative affect) increase the effect that arousal-related characteristics (e.g., reward sensitivity) have on inflammatory biology in ways that may confer risk for depression and hypo/mania symptoms.

Translational Modeling of Psychomotor Function in Normal and AD-Pathological Aging With Special Concerns on the Effects of Social Isolation.

One year after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, its secondary impacts can be globally observed. Some of them result from physical distancing and severe social contact restrictions by policies still imposed to stop the fast spread of new variants of this infectious disease. People with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and other dementias can also be significantly affected by the reduction of their activity programs, the loss of partners, and social isolation. Searching for the closest translational scenario, the increased mortality rates in male 3xTg-AD mice modeling advanced stages of the disease c

Following young people with perinatal HIV infection from adolescence into adulthood: the protocol for PHACS AMP Up, a prospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: The first generation of adolescents born with HIV infection has reached young adulthood due to advances in treatment. It is important to continue follow-up of these individuals to assess their long-term medical, behavioural and mental health and ability to successfully transition to adulthood while coping with a chronic, potentially stigmatising condition. To accomplish this, and to maintain their interest in long-term research participation, we need to accommodate the changing lifestyles and interests of young adult study participants while ensuring valid data collection. We rep

Educational Impact of an Instagram Account on Histology Teaching: Mixed Methods Approach in Medical Education.

BACKGROUND: Morphology-based disciplines such as histology, embryology, and cytogenetics require strong visual learning and rely heavily on visual pattern recognition, with more complex integrative processes, that is, higher-order cognitive skills that connect, interpret, and apply knowledge across contexts. These skills may be supported by social media formats. In parallel, medical students increasingly engage with digital and social media platforms, prompting interest in their potential educational value. Instagram (Meta Platforms, Inc), as an image-centered and interactive medium, has emerg

Autistic adults' experiences of cognitive-behavioural group therapy for social anxiety: Relational experiences of participation.

Autistic adults often report high levels of social anxiety and significant life impacts from this anxiety on well-being and functioning. Although cognitive-behavioural therapy in group settings has been adapted for autistic populations, there is a paucity of research exploring how autistic individuals experience CBT interventions. This qualitative study investigated autistic adults' experiences of a modified cognitive-behavioural therapy group programme for social anxiety. Twenty-seven autistic participants were recruited through clinical services and community outreach. Following the interven
