STUDY OBJECTIVE: The primary objective of this study was to determine if there was a significant change in potassium levels with sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitor therapy in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D). A co-primary objective was to evaluate which factors may predispose a patient to changes in potassium levels.
DESIGN: Multicenter retrospective cohort chart review.
DATA SOURCE: Study patients were identified through an electronic medical record-generated report if they had T2D and were prescribed an SGLT2 inhibitor from January 2013 to September 2019.

OBJECTIVE: Potassium nitrate (KNO3) suppresses nociception induced by dental hypersensitivity (HYS). We aimed to examine the effects of KNO3 on the neural activity of the trigeminal spinal subnucleus caudalis (Vc) in HYS model rats.
METHODS: KNO3 or vehicle was applied to the exposed dentin of HYS rats for 3 days. c-Fos expression and neuronal activity in the Vc after acetone treatment for cold stimulation were examined to evaluate the effects of KNO3 application on dentin.

BACKGROUND: Although integrase inhibitor (INI)-based regimens are now the first-line choice for all people living with HIV, experience among children and adolescents is still scarce. We describe the characteristics and outcomes of a paediatric/adolescent cohort on INI-based ART.
METHODS: Retrospective analysis of HIV-infected patients below 18 years of age who started an INI-based regimen from 2007 to 2019, enrolled in the Spanish National Adult (CoRIS) and Paediatric (CoRISpe) cohorts. Resistance mutations were identified by the Stanford HIV Drug Resistance Database.

We studied the effects of dietary mineral source and oil intake on kidney calcification in 4-wk-old female Fischer rats after consuming the AIN-76 purified diet (AIN-76). Congenital hyperinsulinism (CHI) is the most frequent cause of severe, persistent hypoglycemia in infancy and childhood. We report a case of CHI with diffuse pancreatic abnormality diagnosed preoperatively using the 68Ga octreotide (DOTA NOC) positron emission tomography scan. Genetic analysis revealed homozygous ABCC8 splicing mutation. Subtotal (95%) pancreatectomy was done, and the infant remained euglycemic and was discharged on breast feeds. The patient is continuously followed up and is asymptomatic until 9 months.

A key feature of O2 sensing by chemoreceptor tissues is the hypoxic inhibition of K+ channels.
