Several surgical procedures, from debulking to extrapleural pneumonectomy, may be applied for stage IVa Masaoka thymomas, but their efficiency is still controversial. Case studies have favored R0 resection as the cornerstone of multimodal therapy for locoregional metastatic extension. This report describes a standardized procedure combining a cytoreductive surgical procedure and intrathoracic chemohyperthermia on a 46-year-old patient presenting with B2 thymoma and synchronous unilateral pleural metastasis.

A 28-year-old male was diagnosed with acute pericarditis after presenting with acute chest pain, fever and an abnormality in an electrocardiogram. BACKGROUND: Thymomas and thymic carcinomas are rare tumors of the anterior mediastinum. A WHO classification was introduced in 1999, which has been updated in 2004. Meanwhile, several retrospective studies have been carried out which have shown the prognostic significance of this classification together with Masaoka's staging system and the extent of surgery.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 1983 and 2000, 77 patients (37 male, 40 female) underwent resection of thymomas and thymic carcinomas in our institution. Complete resection was achieved in 57 patients. The median follow-up was 72.6 months.

Experience in surgical treatment of 2977 patients with generalized myasthenia is presented, 386 (13%) of them have undergone surgeries for thymus tumors. Organo-specific tumors (thymoma) were diagnosed in 370 (95.9%) of them. Computed and magnetic-resonance tomography has the highest sensitivity and specificity in diagnosis of thymus tumors. Disseminated Mycobacterium avium infection is the major cause of bacteremia in patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. We present here a new animal model of this disease, thymectomized C57BL/6 mice that were intravenously infused with monoclonal antibody to selectively deplete CD4+ T cells. Evidence is presented to show that the expulsion of adult Nippostrongylus brasiliensis worms from the intestine of the rat requires the presence of functional lymphocytes.
