Combined treatment of 96 patients with odontogenic phlegmons of the face and neck included local application of perftorane (plasma substitute with gas transport function). The addition of perftorane to complex therapeutic measures provides significant improvement of the patients' general status and speeds up reparative processes in the wound. It facilitates secondary suturing, shortens treatment time, provides wound healing by primary intention, improves functional and cosmetic results.

PURPOSE: This study measured the impact of previous contact lens wearing schedule on the resolution of signs and contact lens-related symptoms among wearers of lotrafilcon A lenses.
METHODS: One hundred forty adapted low Dk daily wear (DW) and 140 adapted low Dk extended wear (EW) subjects were enrolled and examined for 1 year (overall study length is 3 years). Three low-viscosity perfluorocarbon liquids were used intraoperatively for hydrokinetic manipulation of the retina during vitreous surgery for retinal detachment with advanced proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Seventy-six consecutive patients with total rhegmatogenous retinal detachments and severe proliferative vitreoretinopathy underwent combined pars plana vitrectomy, lensectomy, panretinal photocoagulation, perfluoropropane gas (C3F8)/fluid exchange, and scleral buckling.
