1.6 billion people are currently infected with parasitic worms. Group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2) play a central role in promoting the protective type 2 immunity against these parasites. Here we show that a subpopulation of intestinal ILC2 express the immune checkpoint molecule CD160 in mice infected with the parasitic nematode Strongyloides ratti. OBJECTIVE: To explore the efficacy of ivermectin in the treatment of serologically diagnosed cases of Strongyloides stercoralis (S. stercoralis) infection in an Aboriginal community and to describe factors that may influence the outcome of treatment.

Little is known about the genetic variability of the soil-transmitted nematode, Strongyloides stercoralis, in humans. We sequenced portions of the small subunit rDNA (SSU), including the hyper variable regions (HVR) I and IV from S. stercoralis larvae derived from individuals living in a rural setting in Cambodia. The administration of viable Bifidobacterium animalis was tested to induce resistance against Strongyloides venezuelensis infection in mice. Effects on parasite burden, worm length, egg output, and intestinal mucosal histology were evaluated. Hypereosinophilia (HE), defined as eosinophil count above 0.5 G/l in the peripheral blood. Most cases are secondary to other diseases. Etiological diagnosis remains complex especially as causes of HE vary across the population. Allergic diseases and parasitic infections are the predominant causes. However up to 10% of HE are secondary to tumors. Here, we describe a case of HE initially attributed to a breast cancer that turn out to be due to an angillulosis acquired just before the diagnosis of the tumor.
