Viral-associated trichodysplasia spinulosa is an unusual condition with distinctive clinical and histopathological features. Initially described in patients immunosupressed as a result of solid organ transplantation, it has also been reported in patients treated with immunosuppressive drugs other than cyclosporine or being treated for hematological malignancies. Patients presented with disseminated follicular, hyperkeratotic papules, and variable degrees of alopecia. Histopathological examination revealed shaftless bulbous and dilated hair follicles with keratotic plugging of the infundibulum.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the mutations pattern of the genes of a collodion baby.
METHODS: Collodion baby is a genetic heterogeneous disease caused by mutations of several genes. Since the most common mutations were observed in TGM1 gene, this gene was chosen for mutation screening. The screening was carried out by PCR and direct sequencing. The allele specific primers were designed for a missense mutation and allele-specific (AS) PCR was carried out in 50 normal individuals for population study.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether working under relative humidity (RH) around 55 +/- 5% may lead to dry symptoms among workers in tropical regions.
METHODS: We recruited 3,154 Taiwanese workers who had no history of skin diseases and compared dry symptoms between clean room workers (RH around 55 +/- 5%) and other workers (RH around 65 +/- 5%).

Scleroderma (SSc) is a fibrosing connective tissue disease that is poorly responsive to any treatment, including immune suppression. SSc shares many characteristics with chronic graft-versus-host disease (GVHD). Because the immunomodulatory drug thalidomide has proven beneficial in chronic GVHD, we studied the immune response and clinical effects of thalidomide in SSc patients. Water content of the epidermis was measured before and after a 3-h , 4-day, and 10-day treatment using 10% salicylic acid or 10% carbamide ointment. The measurement was performed using the Corneometer CM 420 from the firm "Schwarzhaupt Medizintechnik GmbH". Salicylic acid ointment was applied on one and carbamide ointment on the other back of the hand. Neither salicylic acid nor carbamide seem to influence significantly the water content of the healthy epidermis. In two patients with more severe hyperkeratosis carbamide increased the water content more than salicylic acid did.

Transient acantholytic dermatosis (TAD) is a relatively common entity that has been also noted to occur in patients with cancer. Herein, we describe a case of transient acantholytic dermatosis occurring in a patient with a history of prostate cancer status post radiation, now being treated with combination therapy with pembrolizumab and carboplatin-pemetrexed for advanced lung adenocarcinoma. Our case emphasizes the importance of being cognizant of TAD and its associations, particularly in cancer patients.
