Cattle identification based on multiple feature decision layer fusion.

In farming scenarios, cattle identification has become a key issue for the development of precision farming. In precision livestock farming, single-feature recognition methods are prone to misjudgment in complex scenarios involving multiple cattle obscuring each other during drinking and feeding. This paper proposes a decision-level identification method based on the multi-feature fusion of cattle faces, muzzle patterns, and ear tags. The method utilizes the SOLO algorithm to segment images and employs the FaceNet and PP-OCRv4 networks to extract features for the cattle's faces, muzzle pattern

Technical Note: Neural Network Architectures for Self-Supervised Body Part Regression Models with Automated Localized Segmentation Application.

The advancement of medical image deep learning necessitates tools that can accurately identify body regions from whole-body scans to serve as an essential pre-processing step for downstream tasks. Typically, these deep learning models rely on labeled data and supervised learning, which is labor-intensive. However, the emergence of self-supervised learning is revolutionizing the field by eliminating the need for labels. The purpose of this study was to compare neural network architectures of self-supervised models that produced a body part regression (BPR) slice score to aid in the development

An optimized siamese neural network with deep linear graph attention model for gynaecological abdominal pelvic masses classification.

An adnexal mass, also known as a pelvic mass, is a growth that develops in or near the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and supporting tissues. For women suspected of having ovarian cancer, timely and accurate detection of a malignant pelvic mass is crucial for effective triage, referral, and follow-up therapy. While various deep learning techniques have been proposed for identifying pelvic masses, current methods are often not accurate enough and can be computationally intensive. To address these issues, this manuscript introduces an optimized Siamese circle-inspired neural network with deep

Development of a Novel In Silico Classification Model to Assess Reactive Metabolite Formation in the Cysteine Trapping Assay and Investigation of Important Substructures.

Predicting whether a compound can cause drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is difficult due to the complexity of drug mechanism. The cysteine trapping assay is a method for detecting reactive metabolites that bind to microsomes covalently. However, it is cumbersome to use 35S isotope-labeled cysteine for this assay. Therefore, we constructed an in silico classification model for predicting a positive/negative outcome in the cysteine trapping assay. We collected 475 compounds (436 in-house compounds and 39 publicly available drugs) based on experimental data performed in this study, and the compo

SSM-Net: Semi-supervised multi-task network for joint lesion segmentation and classification from pancreatic EUS images.

Pancreatic cancer does not show specific symptoms, which makes the diagnosis of early stages difficult with established image-based screening methods and therefore has the worst prognosis among all cancers. Although endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) has a key role in diagnostic algorithms for pancreatic diseases, B-mode imaging of the pancreas can be affected by confounders such as chronic pancreatitis, which can make both pancreatic lesion segmentation and classification laborious and highly specialized. To address these challenges, this work proposes a semi-supervised multi-task network (SSM-

Multimodal ECG heartbeat classification method based on a convolutional neural network embedded with FCA.

Arrhythmias are irregular heartbeat rhythms caused by various conditions. Automated ECG signal classification aids in diagnosing and predicting arrhythmias. Current studies mostly focus on 1D ECG signals, overlooking the fusion of multiple ECG modalities for enhanced analysis. We converted ECG signals into modal images using RP, GAF, and MTF, inputting them into our classification model. To optimize detail retention, we introduced a CNN-based model with FCA for multimodal ECG tasks. Achieving 99.6% accuracy on the MIT-BIH arrhythmia database for five arrhythmias, our method outperforms prior m

Alzheimer's Disease Prediction Using Fly-Optimized Densely Connected Convolution Neural Networks Based on MRI Images.

Alzheimer's is a degenerative brain cell disease that affects around 5.8 million people globally. The progressive neurodegenerative disease known as Alzheimer's Disease (AD), affects the frontal cortex, the part of the brain in charge of memory, language, and cognition. As a result, researchers are utilizing a variety of machine-learning techniques to create an automated method for AD detection. The massive data collected during ROI and biomarker identification takes longer to handle using current methods. This study uses metaheuristic-tuned deep learning to detect the AD-affected region. The

MediDRNet: Tackling category imbalance in diabetic retinopathy classification with dual-branch learning and prototypical contrastive learning.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The classification of diabetic retinopathy (DR) aims to utilize the implicit information in images for early diagnosis, to prevent and mitigate the further worsening of the condition. However, existing methods are often limited by the need to operate within large, annotated datasets to show significant advantages. Additionally, the number of samples for different categories within the dataset needs to be evenly distributed, because the characteristic of sample imbalance distribution can lead to an excessive focus on high-frequency disease categories, while neglecting

A Self-Supervised Equivariant Refinement Classification Network for Diabetic Retinopathy Classification.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a retinal disease caused by diabetes. If there is no intervention, it may even lead to blindness. Therefore, the detection of diabetic retinopathy is of great significance for preventing blindness in patients. Most of the existing DR detection methods use supervised methods, which usually require a large number of accurate pixel-level annotations. To solve this problem, we propose a self-supervised Equivariant Refinement Classification Network (ERCN) for DR classification. First, we use an unsupervised contrast pre-training network to learn a more generalized repre

Interactively Fusing Global and Local Features for Benign and Malignant Classification of Breast Ultrasound Images.

OBJECTIVE: Breast ultrasound (BUS) is used to classify benign and malignant breast tumors, and its automatic classification can reduce subjectivity. However, current convolutional neural networks (CNNs) face challenges in capturing global features, while vision transformer (ViT) networks have limitations in effectively extracting local features. Therefore, this study aimed to develop a deep learning method that enables the interaction and updating of intermediate features between CNN and ViT to achieve high-accuracy BUS image classification. METHODS: This study introduced the CNN and transfor

Detection of motor nervous disease using deep learning based Duple feature extraction network.

BackgroundA motor nervous disease (MND) is a debilitating nervous disease that affects motor neurons that regulates the muscular voluntary movements. The disease gradually destroys parts of the neurological system. Generally, MND develops owing to a grouping of genetic, behavioural, and natural features.ObjectiveHowever, early detection of MND is challenging and manual identification requires a lot of time. Therefore, automated methods like deep learning structures are needed to detect MND quickly and more accurately than manual classification. In this work, a novel deep learning-based Duple f

Self-supervised learning for classifying paranasal anomalies in the maxillary sinus.

PURPOSE: Paranasal anomalies, frequently identified in routine radiological screenings, exhibit diverse morphological characteristics. Due to the diversity of anomalies, supervised learning methods require large labelled dataset exhibiting diverse anomaly morphology. Self-supervised learning (SSL) can be used to learn representations from unlabelled data. However, there are no SSL methods designed for the downstream task of classifying paranasal anomalies in the maxillary sinus (MS). METHODS: Our approach uses a 3D convolutional autoencoder (CAE) trained in an unsupervised anomaly detection (

Involving logical clinical knowledge into deep neural networks to improve bladder tumor segmentation.

Segmentation of bladder tumors from medical radiographic images is of great significance for early detection, diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of bladder cancer. Deep Convolution Neural Networks (DCNNs) have been successfully used for bladder tumor segmentation, but the segmentation based on DCNN is data-hungry for model training and ignores clinical knowledge. From the clinical view, bladder tumors originate from the mucosal surface of bladder and must rely on the bladder wall to survive and grow. This clinical knowledge of tumor location is helpful to improve the bladder tumor segmentation

Development of the next-generation functional neuro-cognitive imaging protocol - Part 1: A 3D sliding-window convolutional neural net for automated brain parcellation.

Functional MRI has emerged as a powerful tool to assess the severity of Post-concussion syndrome (PCS) and to provide guidance for neuro-cognitive therapists during treatment. The next-generation functional neuro-cognitive imaging protocol (fNCI2) has been developed to provide this assessment. This paper covers the first step in the analysis process, the development of a rapidly re-trainable, machine-learning, brain parcellation tool. The use of a sufficiently deep U-Net architecture encompassing a small (39 × 39 × 39 voxel input, 27 × 27 × 27 voxel output) sliding window to sample the entiret

AI-assisted quantification of hypothalamic atrophy in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis by convolutional neural network-based automatic segmentation.

The hypothalamus is a small structure of the brain with an essential role in metabolic homeostasis, sleep regulation, and body temperature control. Some neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and dementia syndromes are reported to be related to hypothalamic volume alterations. Despite its crucial role in human body regulation, neuroimaging studies of this structure are rather scarce due to work-intensive operator-dependent manual delineations from MRI and lack of automated segmentation tools. In this study we present a fully automatic approach based on deep conv

Automated inter-patient arrhythmia classification with dual attention neural network.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Arrhythmia classification based on electrocardiograms (ECG) can enhance clinical diagnostic efficiency. However, due to the significant differences in the number of different categories of heartbeats, the performance of classes with fewer samples in arrhythmia classification have not met expectations under the inter-patient paradigm. This paper aims to mitigate the adverse effects of category imbalance and improve arrhythmia classification performance. METHODS: We constructed a novel dual attention hybrid network (DA-Net) for arrhythmia classification under sample i

Attention guided neural ODE network for breast tumor segmentation in medical images.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. Ultrasound is a widely used screening tool for its portability and easy operation, and DCE-MRI can highlight the lesions more clearly and reveal the characteristics of tumors. They are both noninvasive and nonradiative for assessment of breast cancer. Doctors make diagnoses and further instructions through the sizes, shapes and textures of the breast masses showed on medical images, so automatic tumor segmentation via deep neural networks can to some extent assist doctors. Compared to some challenges which the popular deep neural networks have
