Provider-performed microscopy (PPM) is a diagnostic tool recommended when patients present with several types of gynecologic infections or fungal infections of skin or nails. PPM allows for immediate and accurate treatment, and can strengthen the relationship between clinician and patient. This article reviews two microscopy techniques, the saline wet mount and the potassium hydroxide (KOH) preparation, and discusses their indications for use.

We have previously identified the RNA recognition motif (RRM)-type RNA-binding protein Nrd1 as an important regulator of the posttranscriptional expression of myosin in fission yeast. In order to minimize odor and manage nutrients in liquid pig manure we need to be able to predict what operational practices most influence the concentrations of volatile fatty acids (VFAs), ammonium nitrogen (NH(4)(+)-N), and other nutrients present in the manure. To determine this, we collected manure from 15 pig operations in southwestern Ontario in the fall of 2001 and 2002 and spring of 2002 and 2003. BACKGROUND: Diamine silver fluoride (Ag(NH3)2F), referred to as AgF, has been shown to provide a pronounced antimicrobial action against caries. The clinical application of this material has been limited by the staining associated with both teeth and tooth coloured restorative materials. Glibenclamide binding sites were identified in a membrane preparation from canine aortic smooth muscle. The dissociation constant for [3H]glibenclamide binding was 10 +/- 2 nM, with a density of 420 +/- 108 fmol/mg protein.
