BACKGROUND: Adalimumab is an anti-tumour necrosis factor agent of use in psoriatic arthritis.
AIM: The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of adalimumab in patients with plaque psoriasis unresponsive to previous therapies.
METHODS: We present nine patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthropathy treated with adalimumab, including a woman with a history of breast cancer and a man with hepatitis C virus-related liver disease.

This is the first report of adalimumab-associated pulmonary cryptococcosis. A 56-year-old female with rheumatoid arthritis without a history of pulmonary disease was simultaneously administered adalimumab (40 mg/2 wks), methotrexate (4 mg/wk), and isoniazid (200 mg/day). Antitumor necrosis factor antibodies are widely used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases. We describe the occurrence of autoimmune hepatitis in a patient treated with adalimumab, a fully human IgG antibody against tumor necrosis factor, for psoriatic arthritis. The patient made a full recovery after discontinuation of adalimumab and treatment with steroids. This is the first reported case of adalimumab-induced autoimmune hepatitis.

BACKGROUND: Alopecia areata is a nonscarring hair loss characterized by well-circumscribed patchy areas, most often on the scalp. The inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha), has been connected with the development of alopecia areata in vivo; thus, the TNF-alpha inhibitors have been cited as possible treatments for this autoimmune condition.
