A copper(II) triflate catalyzed transfer hydromethylthiolation of alkenes has been developed using commercially available and easy-to-handle β-methylthioketone as the methanethiol donor under air. This method exclusively provides Markovnikov products. The reaction demonstrates a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance, including compatibility with natural product derivatives. Furthermore, methylthioethers synthesized by this protocol were successfully applied to the preparation of diverse sulfur-containing compounds as well as bioactive molecules.

A visible-light-induced method for the hydrodichloromethylation of unactivated alkenes using chloroform (CHCl3) was developed, employing pyridine·BH3 as the halogen atom transfer (XAT) reagent. The strategy showed a broad functional group tolerance, and 29 examples of unactivated alkenes, including complex natural products or drug derivatives, have been established with good yields. Mechanistic studies indicated that CHCl3 serves as both the source of a dichloromethyl radical and a hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) reagent, and the borane short-chain reaction process was involved in this system. Incorporation of fluoroalkyl motifs in pharmaceuticals can enhance the therapeutic profiles of the parent molecules. The hydrofluoroalkylation of alkenes has emerged as a promising route to diverse fluoroalkylated compounds; however, current methods require superstoichiometric oxidants, expensive/oxidative fluoroalkylating reagents and precious metals, and often exhibit limited scope, making a universal protocol that addresses these limitations highly desirable. Here we report the hydrofluoroalkylation of alkenes with cheap, abundant and available fluoroalkyl carboxylic acids as the sole reage

Currently, catalytically transferable carbenes are limited to electron-deficient and neutral derivatives, and electron-rich carbenes bearing an alkoxy group (i.e., Fischer-type carbenes) cannot be used in catalytic cyclopropanation because of the lack of appropriate carbene precursors. We report herein that acylsilanes can serve as a source of electron-rich carbenes under palladium catalysis, enabling cyclopropanation of a range of alkenes. This reactivity profile is in sharp contrast to that of metal-free siloxycarbenes, which are unreactive toward normal alkenes. The resulting siloxycyclopro

A Ni-catalyzed silylacylation of alkenes is presented. The reaction combines alkenes, ClZnSiR3, and acid chlorides to provide rapid access to β-silyl ketones. Importantly, the method involves a [Ni]-SiR3 complex as a catalytic intermediate, which is rarely described for three-component alkene functionalization. Finally, the synthetic utility of the products is demonstrated, and the mechanistic details are described.

We have found that the CuCF2CF3 complex generated from low-cost pentafluoroethane is a convenient and practical source for the CF2CF3 radical under aerobic conditions at room temperature. Using this system, readily available unactivated alkenes can be pentafluoroethylated to provide novel allylic CF2CF3 compounds with excellent E-selectivity and functional group tolerability. Mechanistic studies including TEMPO-CF2CF3 trapping and radical clock experiments provided strong evidence for radical pathways, offering a new opportunity for copper-mediated radical perfluoroalkylation.

Metal-hydride-catalyzed migratory functionalization of alkenes witnessed extensive development in the past few years. However, the asymmetric version of this reaction has remained largely underdeveloped owing to the difficulty in simultaneous control of both regio- and stereoselectivity. In addition, exploring the wider alkene substrate scope to enable more synthetically valuable applications represents another challenge in this field. In this context, a nickel-catalyzed asymmetric hydrocyanation of internal alkenes involving a chain-walking process is demonstrated. The reaction exhibits excel

Carbon dioxide (CO2), as an ideal single-carbon source in chemical synthesis, has garnered extensive attention for its direct utilization. The direct conversion of CO2 via electrochemistry, an environmentally benign strategy, offers a crucial direction and immense potential for resource transformation in the context of carbon neutrality goals. However, due to the extremely low reduction potential of CO2 itself, the electrochemical carboxylation process often inevitably leads to the formation of multiple products, resulting in poor reaction selectivity. To tackle this challenge, a photoelectroc

A successful methodology for the copper-catalyzed dehydrogenated methylsulfonylation of alkenes utilizing CH3SSO3Na in conjunction with hypervalent iodine reagents was successfully established. This method offers a practical avenue to obtain allyl methyl sulfones and alkenyl methyl sulfones by forming C-S bonds. Using the C-H bond oxidation sulfonylation strategy with alkenes and Bunte salts, we successfully synthesized a total of twenty two compounds, including four examples of deuterium-substituted molecules, and demonstrated one example of a scale-up reaction.

Alkene hydrodifluoroalkylation is a fruitful strategy for synthesizing difluoromethylated compounds that are interesting for developing new medicinal agents, agrochemicals, and advanced materials. Whereas the anti-Markovnikov hydrodifluoroalkylation to linear-type products is developed, employing radical-based processes, the Markovnikov synthesis of branched adducts remains unexplored. Herein, we describe acid-catalyzed processes involving carbocation intermediates as a promising strategy to secure the Markovnikov regioselectivity. Accordingly, the Markovnikov hydrodifluoroalkylation of mono-,

Ethyl glyoxylate O-tert-butyldimethylsilyloxime (8), on treatment with 2.2 equiv of BF3 x OEt2, generated N-boranonitrone E, which underwent intermolecular cycloaddition with alkenes 18 to afford isoxazolidines 19 in moderate to high yields. The cycloaddition of N-boranonitrone E with most of the alkenes gave 3,5-trans isoxazolidines as the major isomers via a concerted mechanism. However, in the case of 1-methylated cyclic alkenes (18j and 18l), the cycloaddition surprisingly furnished the 3,3a-cis-cycloadducts (19j and 19l) as major isomers. A possible explanation is that the reaction of 1-m

Azides bearing a suitably disposed alkene, when treated with either mercuric perchlorate or mercuric trifluoromethanesulfonate, produce bicyclic iminium ions. This new version of the Schmidt reaction proceeds by capture of the mercuronium ion intermediate by the azide to produce an aminodiazonium ion, which suffers a 1,2-shift to give an iminium ion (e.g., 10 --> 16 --> 17 --> 18). Reduction of the iminium ion may then be carried out to produce an amine. Compared to earlier work on the protic acid-promoted intramolecular Schmidt reaction of azido-alkenes, the mercury-promoted Schmidt reaction

In this article, we report sterically-controlled iron sites based on non-chelating bulky imidazole ligands. Adding 6 equiv. of 1,2-dimethylimidazole (1,2-Me2Im) to Fe(OTf)2⋅2CH3CN affords the first example of a 5-coordinate imidazole‑iron complex ([Fe(1,2-Me2Im)5](OTf)2, 1). The structure is distorted square pyramidal (τ5 = 0.41). When an iPr group is substituted for the methyl group at the 2-position on the imidazole (2-iPr-1-MeIm), the 14-electron complex ([Fe(2-iPr-1-MeIm)4](OTf)2, 2) is obtained. This complex exhibits slightly distorted tetrahedral geometry (τ'4 = 0.93) with four N-donors

An electrophilic alkene sulfenylation using sulfinate esters as readily available sulfur sources has been developed under mild HI activation. Terminal and 1,2-disubstituted alkenes, including cyclic substrates, predominantly undergo electrophilic addition to afford β-alkoxysulfides with high regio- and stereoselectivity. In contrast, 1,1-diarylethenes favor electrophilic substitution to give alkenyl sulfides selectively. Control experiments and Hammett analyses reveal that sulfinate esters serve as precursors to sulfur(II) electrophiles and that episulfonium ion formation constitutes the rate-

Alkene aminoarylation with a single, bifunctional reagent is a concise synthetic strategy. We report a catalytic protocol for the addition of arylsulfonylacetamides across electron-rich alkenes with complete anti-Markovnikov regioselectivity and excellent diastereoselectivity to provide 2,2-diarylethylamines. In this process, single-electron alkene oxidation enables carbon-nitrogen bond formation to provide a key benzylic radical poised for a Smiles-Truce 1,5-aryl shift. This reaction is redox-neutral, exhibits broad functional group compatibility, and occurs at room temperature with loss of s

The sequenced addition of RLi to nitriles, trapping with isopropylformate, and dehydration with phosphoryl chloride provides an efficient, direct synthesis of alkene isocyanides. The one-pot sequence involves a series of carefully orchestrated steps: addition, formylation, tautomerization, and dehydration, with CuCN catalyzing a key equilibration of a formyl imine to an N-formyl enamine. The resulting aromatic alkeneisocyanides, that are otherwise challenging to synthesize, engage in an unusual [4+2]-type cycloaddition/1,3-H shift/decyanation sequence to afford substituted naphthalenes.

Owing to the low reactivity of internal alkenes, their hydrocarbonylation is largely confined to isomerization-hydrocarbonylation reactions. Herein, a palladium-catalyzed benzylic-selective hydroaminocarbonylation of internal alkenes with aniline hydrochlorides is reported. A broad range of internal alkenes and anilines are compatible with the reaction, affording α-aryl carboxylic amides in high yields with high regioselectivity. The synthetic utility is illustrated by the gram-scale synthesis and concise preparation of key pharmaceutical intermediates and bioactive molecules.

Aryl sulfinamides are valuable intermediates and functional motifs in organic synthesis, with broad utility in pharmaceutical and agrochemical development. However, their broader application has been limited by underdeveloped synthetic methods, often requiring conventionally prefunctionalized aryl/alkenyl halides or organometallic reagents, protected sulfinylamine reagents, and harsh reaction conditions. Herein, we report a photo/copper-catalyzed sulfinamidation of arenes and alkenes, employing aryl and alkenyl sulfonium salts as radical linchpins. This protocol proceeds under mild conditions,

Defluorinative alkylation of alkenes is a useful reaction for converting trifluoromethyl compounds into diverse materials. Photoredox chemistry has been established as an efficient protocol to achieve difluoroalkylation reactions of alkenes using trifluoromethyl arenes as reagents. In comparison, electrochemistry has not achieved comparable progress. In this work, we reported a zinc-cation-promoted electrochemical monodefluorinative alkylation of alkenes using trifluoromethyl arenes as reagents. The reaction tolerated a series of functional groups, including pyridine, silyl, aniline, and cyclo
