Angiocardiography in the diagnosis of congenital heart disease.

Despite tremendous advances in cardiac imaging technology, there still exists an important role for the performance of angiocardiography in children with congenital heart disease. This article contains an outline describing the facilities in which the examinations are performed, how the examination is performed, and, most importantly, the basic tenets of interpretation.

[Quantitative angiocardiography of the complete atrioventricular canal].

23 patients with common atrioventricular canal were studied, seven with associated pulmonary stenosis, using methods of quantitative angiocardiographie (ventricular volume, ejection fraction, wall motion, Emas as an index of contractility). Left and right ventricular end-diastolic volume is increased and related to the Qp/Qs ratio. Pulmonary stenosis has limitant effect on end-diastolic volume, likely by variations of right ventricular compliance. Ejection fraction tended to normal values or is lightly reduced, but the study of wall motion demonstrated a severe hypokinesis of diaphraguscolar s

Double-outlet right ventricle: Pathology and angiocardiography.

Double-outlet right ventricle is but one form of abnormal ventriculoarterial connection. The definition that more than half of each great artery originates above the morphologically right ventricle is arbitrary. As pointed out by Lecompte, those features that should be defined in hearts with the ventriculoarterial connection of double-outlet right ventricle (and indeed other forms of abnormal ventriculoarterial connection) include the nature of the infundibular septum, ventriculoinfundibular fold, trabeculoseptomargin-alis, attachments of infundibular septum to anterior or posterior limb of tr

Method of selective and non-selective angiocardiography for the horse.

A practical and safe method of angiocardiography for the horse is described. The technique involved the rapid injection of 50 to 150 ml contrast agent via catheters in the right and left heart, pulmonary artery and aorta. The examination was carried out with the horse in the standing position or under general anaesthesia. Angiocardiograms were performed on 10 normal horses and satisfactory pictures of the right and left ventricles, pulmonary arteries, aorta and coronary circulation were obtained. The technique was also used in a foal with severe congenital heart disease. The most practical met…

Radionuclide angiocardiography in the diagnosis of congenital heart disorders.

Radionuclide angiocardiography provides a noninvasive assessment of cardiac function and blood flow through the heart and lungs. During the past three years, this procedure has been used at the Duke University Medical Center for evaluation of 343 patients with congenital heart disorders. A review of this experience shows tat the resulting data were frequently useful in the surgical management of these patients. In patients with abnormal blood flow patterns, noninvasive imaging of blood flow was useful before and after operative correction. Radionuclide measurements of left-to-right intracardia…
