A retrospective study was carried out by reviewing all suspected cases of domestic animal poisoning attributed to pesticides, reported to the Milan Poison Control Centre (MPCC) between January 2011 and December 2013. During this period, pesticides were found to be responsible for 37.3% of all suspected poisoning enquiries received (815). The most commonly species involved was the dog (71.1% of calls) followed by the cat (15.8%), while a limited number of cases involved horses, goats and sheep. Most cases of exposure (47.1%) resulted in mild to moderate clinical signs. The outcome was reported

INTRODUCTION: Poisoning from organophosphates and carbamates is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Concerns have been expressed over the safety and efficacy of the use of oximes such as pralidoxime (2-PAM) in patients with carbamate poisoning in general, and more so with carbaryl poisoning specifically. The goal of the present study was to evaluate the role of 2-PAM in a mouse model of lethal carbaryl poisoning.
METHODS: Female ICR Swiss Albino mice weighing 25-30 g were acclimated to the laboratory and housed in standard conditions. One hundred and ten mice received an

Cyanide (CN) is a deadly poison which animals and humans encounter from a number of sources. The following article briefly reviews many of the major studies of CN toxicology in animals and humans. The discussion focuses on sources, body levels, metabolic changes, physiopathology, experimental antidotal studies and the diagnosis and management of CN poisoning in humans.

Amphetamine-type stimulants (ATS) is the most widespread narcotics in the 21st century. The methamphetamine's intoxication mechanism, psychological dependence, drug resistance and therapeutic drug development are the hot spots in current research. Establishment of animal model with methamphetamine poisoning is the basic for the relative studies, the normalization and standardization of the animal model settles the foundation for methamphetamine's further research. This article reviews the animal model of methamphetamine poisoning in China and abroad, the brief history of the acute, subacute an

Animals are constantly exposed to a wide variety of foreign chemicals, many of which are potentially toxic and some of which result in the clinical poisonings. Pesticides are applied on or around animals for the control of insects and rodents. These chemicals may be placed in areas without regard for accessibility to household pets and domestic livestock. Insecticides, herbicides, and fungicides are routinely and haphazardly applied to animal and environmental surfaces alike with apparent disregard for differences in absorptive capability. Fortunately, newer herbicides and fungicides are relat

Plant poisoning in animals, often associated with wild and ornamental species, is a significant concern in veterinary medicine. Due to clinical signs observed in humans after consuming "mad honey", interest in grayanotoxins, produced by Ericaceae plants, has increased. However, effects on animal health have been scarcely addressed despite their interest for veterinary toxicology. This systematic review, following PRISMA guidelines, identified 31 records of grayanotoxin poisoning in animals following the ingestion of plants, affecting a total of 111 livestock and 11 companion animals. Cases wer

Previous studies using bolus intravenous injections of sodium cyanide have been used to model the sudden exposure to high concentrations of cyanide that could occur on the battlefield. This study was designed to develop a model that would simulate the type of exposure to cyanide gas that could happen during actual low-level continuous types of exposure and then compare it with the bolus model. Cardiovascular and respiratory recordings taken from anesthetized dogs have been used previously to characterize the lethal effects of cyanide. The intravenous, bolus injection of 2.5 mg/kg sodium cyanid

Fatal animal poisonings in northern Greece from 1990 to 1995 are recorded. A total of 926 specimens have been analyzed by chromatographic techniques. Pesticides caused 78% of the poisoning cases and all other toxic substances caused 22%. The animals affected were mainly cats, dogs, sheep, birds and bees.

The author administered per os chlordiazepoxide in a toxic dose of 600 mg/kg of body weight/LD50 of chloridazenoxide for rats was 680 mg/kg of body weight in 20 white male rats, weighing 150 gm. Two hours later, on the background of advanced intoxication, manifested by adynamia ataxia, lateral position, somnolence reaching stupor, the author administered in half of the animals (10) per os centrophenaxine in a dose of 50 mg/kg of body weight. The signs of intoxication disappeared for 24 hours after treatment with centrophenoxine. Three of the control animals died, but in the remaining rats the

BACKGROUND: Intentional poisoning represents a serious health risk for domestic and wild animals, this phenomenon has been widespread in Italy for several years.
AIM: Our study aims to examine data on animal poisonings that occurred in the province of Viterbo, Lazio region located in central Italy, from 2003 to 2017. The aim of this study is to provide data on the poisoning of animals in the province of Viterbo.
METHODS: A total of 1,078 cases of suspected poisoning were analysed during the period under review. Of these, 761 (70.6%) were carcasses, 189 (17.6%) were baits, 107 (9.9%) were gas
