We report a case of scleritis caused by Aspergillus fumigatus. The infection was successfully treated with antifungal drugs, cryotherapy and dura mater grafting. A 67-year-old man developed a scleral ulcer 2 months after suffering a trauma in his right eye caused by the branch of a tree. Diagnosis was made after biopsy of a scleral nodule. Aspergillus endocarditis is considered a rare complication in cardiac surgery, which is usually fatal due to unclear clinical manifestations. We present two cases with early and late post-operative Aspergillus endocarditis. Early diagnosis, more investigation for appropriate antifungal agents and their dosage, and early and aggressive surgical treatment may decrease fatality.

BACKGROUND: Aspergillus infection is a known complication of transplantation.
METHODS: We describe our experience with 37 patients who received lung transplants over 2 years at Loyola University Medical Center. All patients who had evidence of aspergillus on culture of clinical specimens or had biopsies with hyphal forms consistent with aspergillus were categorized according to the clinical manifestations.
