Simultaneous contact allergy to neomycin, bacitracin, and polymyxin was seen in two patients. Although neomycin sensitivity is common, bacitracin and polymyxin are less frequently considered as causes of allergic contact dermatitis. Allergy to all three items simultaneously has not been previously reported.

Tetracyclines and bacitracin are used extensively as a growth promotant and a therapeutic, respectively in livestock. In this study, we test whether there is an interaction between bacitracin and tetracycline that can select for an increase in microbial tetracycline sensitivity, using Escherichia coli and Salmonella as a model. Background: Purpuric contact dermatitis (CD) is an unusual presentation of CD. Case: We present a case of purpuric CD occurring after topical usage of bacitracin. We want to emphasize the clinical presentation, besides the classic eczematous form of allergic CD. Conclusion: Purpuric CD may be suspected when there are purple rashes located in areas related to contact with topical medications.
