Salivary-type neoplasms of the breast and lung.

Salivary-type tumors occur in multiple sites in the human body, likely related to a basic structural homology between exocrine glands in these different anatomic areas. This paper reviews these salivary gland tumor types in breast tissue and lung. Salivary-type tumors of both breast and lung are relatively uncommon in comparison to their salivary gland counterparts. This may be attributable in part to lack of familiarity with these tumors in extra-salivary sites, and in part to histologic overlap with other primary and metastatic tumor types. Recognition of these entities is improving as the c

[Role of thermography in the diagnosis of breast neoplasms].

319 cases of breast pathology of doubtful clinical diagnosis were studied by means of thermography and mammography, with histological verification: 214 proved to be malignant tumours and 105 benign. The role of thermography is discussed on the basis of these results; it would appear to be restricted to diagnostic aid status associated with other procedures, particularly clinical examination and mammography.

Vaginal Neoplasm in a Breast Cancer Survivor.

According to GLOBOCAN 2022 data, Carcinoma breast is the second most common malignancy worldwide after lung and ranks 4th in mortality worldwide. Breast cancer can metastasize to various organs. The incidence of vaginal metastasis in carcinoma breast is 1-2%. Here we present a patient with post menopausal bleeding with vaginal mass. She had a history of Triple negative carcinoma left breast 3 years back, treated by Modified Radical Mastectomy followed by chemo radiotherapy. Vaginal biopsy was suggestive of a metastatic carcinoma breast. MRI and PET CT showed isolated vaginal growth. Due to poo

Papillary neoplasms of the breast-reviewing the spectrum.

Papillary neoplasms of the breast encompass a wide range of tumor types ranging from the benign intraductal papilloma to in situ and invasive papillary carcinomas. In this review, we considered each tumor entity listed under the Papillary Neoplasms category in the latest WHO Classification of Breast Tumors (5th edition), namely intraductal papilloma, papillary ductal carcinoma in situ, encapsulated papillary carcinoma, solid-papillary carcinoma, and invasive papillary carcinoma. We examined their pathological features, current issues pertaining to diagnosis and prognostication, as well as the

Risk of malignancy in papillary neoplasms of the breast.

PURPOSE: In recent years, routine excision of papillary neoplasms (PN) of the breast has been questioned and controversy exists over when excision is necessary. The aim of this study was to evaluate the upstage rate to malignancy of core needle biopsy (CNB) diagnosed PNs from multiple diagnostic centers in our area and to identify factors predictive of malignancy. METHODS: Patients presenting to our surgical center between 2013 and 2017 for excision of CNB PN were evaluated. The primary endpoint was upstage to malignancy. The association of age, diagnostic center where CNB performed, type of

Difficulties and errors in diagnosis of breast neoplasms.

Many perceptual and interpretive factors influence the radiologic detection and assessment of breast neoplasms. Diagnostic problems can be divided into errors of detection and errors of assessment and management. Detection issues may relate to inherent features of the tumor or surrounding tissue, technical problems, or human error. Even when lesions are successfully detected, errors in assessment or management recommendations can cause diagnostic delays. Improper breast imaging-reporting and data system (BI-RADS) usage or failure to integrate mammographic, ultrasonography (US), and magnetic re…

[The state of hormone and chemotherapy in breast neoplasms].

Several decisive developments have emerged during the past few years in the hormonal treatment and chemotherapy receptors should make for a more selective and successful application of hormone therapy. In the field of chemotherapy, highly active substances have been developed. Two groups of routine treatment may be defined: the first employs combinations of cytoxan, methotrexate, 5-fluorouracil and prednisone, and the other, combinations of these agents with the highly active adriamycin. With these combinations, remissions lasting an average of over one year, with significantly prolonged survi

Breast neuroendocrine neoplasms - characteristics in contrast-enhanced mammography.

INTRODUCTION: Neuroendocrine neoplasms of the breast (Br-NENs) constitute a heterogeneous group of rare tumors, whose number may be underestimated. Our study aims to evaluate and compare the analysis of the radiological features of Br-NEN and carcinomas with neuroendocrine differentiation (NEDBC), which were visualized in contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM) images. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The histories of patients who, between 2015 and 2023, underwent CEM and core needle biopsy/postoperative histopathological examination confirming the nature of the lesion were retrospectively analyzed. All CEM

Simultaneous bilateral malignant breast neoplasms in Nigerian women.

This study reviews the clinicopathological features and survival of 18 Nigerian women with simultaneous bilateral breast cancer. Twelve (67%) of these patients had bilateral Burkitt's lymphoma of the breast. The average age of these patients was 22 years, and all of the women were pregnant or lactating at the time of initial clinical presentation. The remaining six patients (33%) had bilateral malignant epithelial neoplasms, with lobular carcinoma being present in four cases. The average age of patients with bilateral malignant epithelial tumors was 37 years. None of the 18 patients with simul

Immunoperoxidase localization of lactalbumin in malignant breast neoplasms.

By an immunoperoxidase method, lactalbumin was demonstrated in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells of normal breast, primary and metastatic breast carcinomas, and benign breast disease. Lactalbumin was present in 39 of 64 breast carcinomas of different types, including 77% (31) of infiltrating ductal carcinomas and 42% (seven) of infiltrating lobular carcinomas. It also was present in 55% (nine) of metastatic breast carcinomas and in 100% (five) of fibroadenomas. Lactalbumin was not observed in normal tissues and malignant neoplasms of other tissues, indicating that lactalbumin can serve as a sp

[Histological classification of malignant breast neoplasms. Recent concepts].

The recent histological classifications of breast malignant epithelial tumours place increased emphasis on several concepts: in situ carcinoma, difference of lobular carcinoma from other forms of breast cancer and histological factors of prognosis. The authors propose to discriminate: non infiltrating duct carcinoma (intraductal carcinoma); lobular carcinoma (in situ and infiltrating); infiltrating duct carcinoma in their usual form (80 p. 100 about of all breast carcinoma); among them, histological types with a less ominous prognosis, although relatively rare, are stressed (infiltrating papil

Pathology of breast papillary neoplasms: Community hospital experience.

In this study, 550 breast papillary neoplasms collected in a community hospital over more than ten years were reviewed and analyzed. This included 457 intraductal papillomas, 53 papillary carcinomas, 35 papillary DCIS and five invasive papillary carcinomas. The diagnostic rate of papillary neoplasms increased over time, likely due to better recognition by pathologists. Intraductal papillomas occurred most frequently in the upper outer quadrants and contained ADH/DCIS in 19% of cases. A total of 28% of non-incidental papillomas were associated with ADH/DCIS, and 29% of patients with papillomas

Benign papillary neoplasms of the breast: mammographic findings.

The clinical presentation, pathologic characteristics, and mammographic/ductographic (also known as galactographic) findings were reviewed in 77 patients with histologically proved benign papillary neoplasms of the breast. Patients were classified as having either solitary or multiple papillomas. Patients with multiple papillomas were further subclassified as having either central or peripheral papillomas. Fifty-one patients (66%) had solitary papillomas. Thirty-seven of these patients were symptomatic; 36 had spontaneous nipple discharge, and one had a palpable mass. Ductography was positive

Metastatic neuroendocrine neoplasms of the breast: a systematic review.

Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) originate mainly in the digestive system and lungs and are classified as neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs) or neuroendocrine tumors (NETs). Breast metastases from NENs are rare, accounting for only 1% of breast neoplasms, but may be more frequent than expected. This study aimed to characterize patients with breast metastatic NENs through a literature review. A systematic review was conducted using PubMed, Embase, LILACS, and OpenGrey databases through July 2024. Eligible studies included case reports, case series, or cross-sectional studies documenting at least o…
