Mixed Ovarian Carcinoma Comprising Clear Cell Carcinoma and Endometrioid Carcinoma: A Case Report.

We present a unique case of mixed ovarian carcinoma, including both clear cell carcinoma (CCC) and grade 1 endometrioid carcinoma (EC) in a 49-year-old woman. The patient had no complaints of pain but presented with an enlarged abdomen, necessitating a thorough diagnostic assessment. Histopathological evaluation revealed an unusual histological juxtaposition of CCC coexisting with grade 1 EC found in an ovarian mass, resulting in diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. A comprehensive approach was used to treat this particular case of mixed ovarian cancer, which included surgical procedures and

Combined salivary duct carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma suspected of carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma.

A 76-year-old Japanese woman had noticed an asymptomatic and palpable mass in her left parotid gland region for 20 years. The tumor had showed rapid growth during the last two months. Therefore, the tumor was clinically suspected of being a malignant tumor and was surgically resected. A histopathological examination revealed that the tumor consisted of two different histopathological neoplastic components accompanied by hyalinized fibrosis at the center of the tumor. The two-neoplastic components were squamous cell carcinoma and salivary duct carcinoma. The tumor was suspected to be a carcinom

Colon carcinoma presenting with a synchronous oesophageal carcinoma and Basal cell carcinoma of the skin.

With advances in diagnostic techniques and treatment modalities, the number of patients identified with colorectal carcinoma who develop multiple primary malignancies during long-term followup has been increasing. We report a patient who developed three histologically distinct malignancies. Primary colon carcinoma treated radically followed by an 8-year disease-free period. The patient then presented with progressive dysphagia and was investigated and diagnosed to have a synchronous multicentric squamous cell carcinoma of the oesophagus and basal cell carcinoma of the skin. There was a simulta

Vascular stroma formation in carcinoma in situ, invasive carcinoma, and metastatic carcinoma of the breast.

The generation of vascular stroma is essential for solid tumor growth and involves stimulatory and inhibiting factors as well as stromal components that regulate functions such as cellular adhesion, migration, and gene expression. In an effort to obtain a more integrated understanding of vascular stroma formation in breast carcinoma, we examined expression of the angiogenic factor vascular permeability factor (VPF)/vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF); the VPF/VEGF receptors flt-1 and KDR; thrombospondin-1, which has been reported to inhibit angiogenesis; and the stromal components collag

Chromophobe renal cell carcinoma-like thyroid carcinoma: possible misdiagnosis as metastatic renal cell carcinoma.

To date, multiple thyroid cancer variants have been reported. Herein, we report a rare case of chromophobe renal cell carcinoma-like thyroid carcinoma (CRETHCA) in a 60-year-old woman, for which the morphologic findings resembled those of chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (ChRCC). ChRCC of the kidney is characterized by large polygonal tumor cells with distinct cell borders, perinuclear clearing, multiple binucleate cells, and strongly positive immunostaining for paired box gene 8 (PAX8) and carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX). In our case, the thyroid gland tumor was incidentally detected by routine

Ureteral urothelial carcinoma with squamous cell carcinoma and sarcomatoid carcinoma differentiation: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) with multiple pathological types is extremely rare in the clinic, but the recurrence rate and mortality these patients are high. At present, there is no standard treatment for such cases. CASE PRESENTATION: We reported a case of ureteral urothelial carcinoma with squamous cell carcinoma and sarcomatoid carcinoma differentiation and rapid ileal metastasis and reviewed the literature related to different pathological types of upper urinary tract tumours to explore the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis characteristics of the disease, e

Primary biliary cholangitis metachronously complicated with combined hepatocellular carcinoma-cholangiocellular carcinoma and hepatocellular carcinoma.

Primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) is a progressive cholestatic liver disease characterized by the presence of highly specific antimitochondrial antibodies, portal inflammation and lymphocyte-dominated destruction of the intrahepatic bile ducts, which leads to cirrhosis. While its pathogenesis remains unclear, PBC that shows histological progression to fibrosis carries a high risk of carcinogenesis; the same is true of viral liver diseases. In patients with PBC, the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is rare; the development of combined hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocellular

A carcinoma with features of porocarcinoma, dermal ductular carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma in situ.

We report the case of a 69-year-old Japanese woman with an extraordinary carcinoma on her back. The tumor had three different histologic components including porocarcinoma, dermal ductular carcinoma, and an area resembling squamous cell carcinoma in situ (SCCIS). Sweat gland tumors (SGTs) are known to have a wide spectrum of pathologic appearances and variable grades of differentiation. This report expands the spectrum of reported combinations.

Spindle cell carcinoma of the larynx with a verrucous carcinoma component: combined carcinoma of larynx.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the most common neoplasm of the larynx. There are three variants of SCC. Each variant presents distinctive biologic behaviors and clinical courses. Therefore reaching the exact diagnosis and distinguishing the variants is fateful. We describe a case of spindle cell carcinoma of the larynx with a verrucous carcinoma component. To our knowledge, this entity has never been documented before.

Mucoacinar Carcinoma: A Rare Variant of Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma.

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is generally characterized by an admixture of mucous, epidermoid and intermediate type cells. Numerous variants morphologies are described and defined by stromal and/or cytoplasmic tinctorial characteristics. We now report 11 cases of MEC with serous acinar differentiation, reflecting a distal intercalated duct/acinar phenotype, which we designate as mucoacinar carcinomas. Seven patients were female while 4 were male with a mean age of 55 years (range: 21 to 72 y). Ten cases were from the parotid while 1 was from the submandibular gland. Mean size of the tumors w

Esophageal adenosquamous carcinoma mimicking acantholytic squamous cell carcinoma.

Herein is described a unique case of esophageal cancer mimicking acantholytic squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The patient succumbed to the disease within one month of diagnosis. Autopsy revealed a 10-cm esophageal tumor, characterized by prominent acantholysis-like areas composed of discohesive cancer cells, along with nested growth of SCC. These discohesive cancer cells focally exhibited pagetoid extension into adjacent esophageal epithelium, comprised ~60% of the esophageal tumor volume and had widely metastasized to the lungs, chest wall, liver, spleen, right adrenal gland, bones and lymph n

Odontogenic carcinoma with dentinoid: a new odontogenic carcinoma.

Dentinoid is an integral part of some odontogenic tumors. This article describes the clinico-pathological features of three cases of odontogenic carcinomas with dentinoid (OCD). A comparison of these with previously reported cases of dentinoid-producing epithelial odontogenic tumors allowed us to identify another six cases that may be considered as examples of OCD. Six cases occurred in the mandible and three in the maxilla, all developing behind the canines. There was no sex predilection (five men and four women; age range 14-61 years, mean 38.1). Pain or discomfort was mentioned in five case

Metastatic esophageal carcinoma masquerading as inflammatory breast carcinoma.

A 50-year-old Caucasian woman with a history of esophageal adenocarcinoma presented with a 3-week history of right breast swelling and progressive erythema. Twenty-two months prior to presentation, she had been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the esophagus (T3,N1,M1a) and underwent neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy followed by surgical resection. On physical examination, the right breast was red, swollen (40% larger than the contralateral breast), tender to palpation, and warm to the touch (Fig. 1). No mass was palpable. On the basis of the clinical findings, inflammatory breast carcinoma was sus

OBJECTIVE: To explore the definition of transglottic carcinoma and its pathological characteristics of local invasion, and to determine the distinction between transglottic carcinoma and transglottic invasion of laryngeal carcinoma. METHODS: Fifty total laryngectomy specimens of transglottic carcinoma were subject to whole-organ serial section, HE staining and microscopic observation. RESULTS: The ventricles of 50 cases were all invaded, the main lesion of carcinoma was in the ventricle, or the ventricle was the center of the lesion. The rate of invasion to paraglottic space(PGS) was 82%(41/
