Cat-scratch disease.

Cat-scratch disease is a relatively common disorder that is the result of infection with a recently identified gram-negative bacillus. Although it is overwhelmingly a benign, self-limited illness requiring only supportive care, serious complications can occur and the disease may be life-threatening on occasion. Although randomized clinical trials of antibiotic therapy for CSD do not exist, CSD has demonstrated in vitro susceptibility to several antibiotics, and gentamicin has been reported beneficial in a few patients with systemic manifestations of the illness. Therefore, pending clinical tri…

[Cat-scratch disease].

Cat-scratch disease is usually a self-limited illness characterized by regional lymphadenopathy and a skin inoculation lesion. These findings generally resolve spontaneously over a period of several weeks or months. The discovery of the causative organism, an intracellular gram-negative rod and the recognition of severe systemic courses in immuno-compromised patients have renewed the interest in this disease. We report a prolonged clinical course with lymph node suppuration in an immunocompetent patient. The diagnosis was confirmed by the detection of the organism in Warthin-Starry silver stai…

[Cat-scratch disease].

Cat scratch disease is a self-limited but chronic lymphadenitis which has acquired new interest by the description of a responsible pathogen, an intracellularly located gram-negative rod. Due to its low pathogenicity for laboratory animals, the definite proof for causality is still lacking. Severe systemic courses, mainly in immune suppressed patients, can however be identified more positively by detection of this pathogen. A routine diagnostic test is likely to be developed in the near future and therapeutic guidelines for the minority of severe, progressive forms may be drawn up.

Cat-scratch disease.

Cat-scratch disease is a self-limited disease associated with contact with cats that causes regional lymphadenopathy in children and young adults. Recently identification of the probable causative organism, a gram-negative, non-acid-fast coccobacillus, has been achieved through special staining techniques from skin inoculation sites and involved lymph tissue. Differential diagnosis includes a variety of other infectious diseases and neoplasms. Diagnosis of cat-scratch disease can be made by presence of typical clinical findings, history of exposure to cats, results of skin testing to cat-scrat…

[Cat-scratch disease].

A case of cat-scratch syndrome is described. The dermatological features and skin reactions reported in this illness (erythema nodosum, erythema multiforma) as well as the diagnostical criteria are reviewed. The hypothetical nature of the etiologic agent of this syndrome is discussed.

Cat scratch disease.

Cat scratch disease developed on a 40-year-old wife was reported. Umbilicated papules closely resembling those in herpetic skin infection development on the areas which had been scratched by a cat a week ago. Obtained findings in the present case led us to a speculation that this disease was caused by herpes virus. 72 cases of this disease have been reported in Japan, and they were reviewed in the present paper.
