A patient developed an acquired toxoplasmic chorioretinitis 11 days after exposure to infected animals. As systemic manifestations of the disease, the patient had rhinitis, sore throat, muscular pains, fatigue, cervical lymphadenopathy, and cardiac symptoms, with highly elevated Toxoplasma antibody titers. During treatment with prednisone, the chorioretinal lesion progressed to the macular area, but improvement was seen when pyrimethamine and sulfonamide therapy was started. The importance of this case relates to the unusual occurrence of acquired infection with systemic manifestations in toxo…

Coxiella burnetii is the causative agent in Q fever, a zoonotic disease. Ocular manifestations of this disease are extremely rare and have been infrequently reported. In this report, we describe a rare case of chorioretinitis in a patient incompletely treated for Q fever. We highlight the unique ocular manifestation with multimodal imaging, and the importance of a thorough history and prompt and correct treatment of the disease with systemic therapy. [Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina 2024;55:412-414.].

The goal of this study was to establish the incidence of chorioretinitis in 100 infants whose mothers presented a seroconversion during the pregnancy. It is a retrospective study over 6.5 years. There were 17 cases of latent congenital toxoplasmosis (56.7%) and 13 cases of clinical congenital toxoplasmosis (43.3%). Three infants presented with chorioretinitis: one at birth in a context of general stroke, the two others at 2 and 17 months after birth, despite treatment. The risk of retinochorioditis was the same in the case of latent or clinical congenital toxoplasmosis. The fall in the antibod…

A case of tuberculous uveitis that presented 34 years after a primary articular focus is evaluated. The pathogenesis of the infection and the role of the tuberculin skin test in the diagnosis are discussed. Isoniazid was used with good therapeutic results. Fluorescein angiography was found to be essential in the follow-up of the choroidal lesions. Subretinal neovascularization was managed with argon laser photocoagulation.

PURPOSE: To report the clinical features of patients with focal chorioretinitis (FCR), as well as toxoplasma serology.
METHODS: We included 25 (4%) consecutive patients with FCR of 593 with uveitis. Controls consisted of 127 patients with posterior and panuveitis and clinical features other than FCR. Results of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for anti-Toxoplasma gondii immunoglobulin G (IgG) and IgM, demographic data, and clinical features of patients were registered.
RESULTS: Positive anti-T. gondii IgG levels were observed in 21 of 25 patients (84%) with FCR in contrast to 14 of 127 pati…

We present a case of syphilitic posterior placoid chorioretinitis, an uncommon but distinct ocular manifestation of syphilis. Because of the ocular findings, a lumbar puncture was performed to evaluate for neurosyphilis, which was positive. The ocular symptoms resolved with intravenous penicillin.
