Conservative aesthetic solutions for the adolescent and young adult utilizing composite resins.

The demand for aesthetic procedures in today's dental arena is increasing exponentially, yet these desires often call for conservative restorative options, especially for the adolescent patient. The use of direct composite resin restorations offers the dentist the most sim-ple and cost-effective manner in which to create an aesthetic change in the anterior portion of the mouth. The combination of improved materials and innovative delivery techniques allows clinicians to reach these aesthetic goals by creating conservative and functional restorations that have excellent longevity. Effect of warm air on the shear bond strength of composite resins.

This investigation evaluated the operating characteristics of a recently introduced tooth dryer and its effect on the bond strength of three composite resins to etched enamel. The effect of varying air pressure, distance from the tip of the tooth dryer, and distance laterally from mid-air stream on temperature were measured using a rapid-response thermocouple. Specimens were subjected to shear forces either immediately after bonding or after 5 days of water storage. The air stream required from 32 to 41 seconds to reach maximal temperature; however, more than 90% of the maximal temperature was

Assessment of Color Stability of Various Flowable Composite Resins with Different Viscosities.

Biomimetic restorative dentistry aims to preserve tooth structure and achieve optimal aesthetic harmony with surrounding dentition. The principles and protocols associated with biomimetic restorative dentistry are designed to enhance the longevity of the restoration. The use of flowable CRs is increasingly common; however, the effect of viscosity on the discoloration has not been clearly established. This in vitro study aimed to assess the color stability of flowable CRs with varying viscosities following immersion in common staining solutions and subsequent repolishing. A total of 250 disc-sh

[The surface degradation of various light-cured composite resins by thermal cycling].

The durability of four commercially available light-cured composite resins was investigated by thermal cycling, GR containing inorganic fillers treated with the graft polymerization of acryl ester, LF inorganic fillers treated with a silane coupling agent, PC silanized inorganic fillers and organic composite fillers, and the MFR-type SI containing the organic composite fillers. These materials were given 10,000, 30,000 and 50,000 thermal cycles (4 degrees C-60 degrees C) and the deterioration of materials by thermal cycling was evaluated by the measurement of the mechanical properties and the

Transitioning from injectable resin composite restorations to resin composite CAD/CAM veneers: A clinical report.

OBJECTIVE: To describe a shift from injectable resin composite technique to composite resin computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) veneers in addressing esthetic concerns associated with diastemas between anterior lower teeth in a clinical case. CLINICAL CONSIDERATIONS: Among several techniques proposed for direct resin composite restoration, the "Injectable resin composite technique" has gained popularity for its time-efficiency, reduced technique sensitivity, and diminished reliance on clinician skills. However, challenges such as staining and the need for frequent

Influence of underlying resin composite shade and material thickness on color matching of single-shade resin composites.

PURPOSE: To assess the influence of the resin-based substrate shade and the single-shade resin composite thickness on color matching ability. METHODS: Discs (Ø6 x 2 mm) made from a conventional resin composite (Z350 XT) simulated high- (B1B), medium- (A3B), and low-luminosity (C3B) substrates. Each disc (n=10) received sequential increments of the following single-shade resin composites: Palfique Omnichroma (PO) or Vittra APS Unique (VU), at thicknesses of 0.5, 1 and 2 mm. Color parameters [CIEL*a*b*, Vita Scale (SGU), ΔEab, and ΔE₀₀] were determined for conventional resin composite and post-

The preventive resin (composite resin/sealant) restoration: nine-year results.

This study was performed to examine the 9-year success of the composite resin/sealant restoration, which uses "sealing for prevention" of fissure caries rather than "cavity extension for prevention." Three hundred thirty-two Class I restorations were placed in the occlusal surfaces of 240 permanent molar teeth in 114 children aged 6 to 14. Cavity preparations were made in occlusal surfaces, and caries was removed with no attempt to create any additional retention or remove undermined enamel. Exposed dentin was covered with Dycal and the cavity was restored with Radiopaque Adaptic, which was th

Wear of bulk-fill resin composites.

OBJECTIVE: Bulk-fill resin composites are a special group of restorative materials designed to reduce chair time needed to insert a direct composite restoration. However, other factors determine the clinical success of a restorative material. Clinically the major reasons for failure of direct restorations are secondary caries and fracture of the restoration or the tooth itself. In the long-term composite resin restorations in posterior teeth may be prone to wear. As bulk-fill materials have their own composition that will determine their mechanical properties, the wear resistance may be affect

Fiber reinforced composite resin systems.

The Targis/Vectris and Sculpture/FibreKor systems were devised to create a translucent maximally reinforced resin framework for fabrication of crowns, bridges, inlays, and onlays. These materials are esthetic, have translucency similar to castable glass-ceramics such as OPC and Empress, and have fits that are reported to be acceptable in clinical and laboratory trials. These restorations rely on proper bonding to the remaining tooth structure; therefore, careful attention to detail must be paid to this part of the procedure. Cementation procedures should involve silane treatment of the cleaned

Color Repair of a Composite Resin Restoration.

Fractured teeth with both enamel and dentin involvement might be treated with adhesive composite resin restorations. In cases where a perfect color match between the composite restoration and the remaining tooth structure is not achieved, a repair might be carried out to correct the color of restoration. This procedure avoids the restoration replacement, preserving tooth structure without compromising the esthetic outcome.

Comparison of pulp responses to resin composites.

Diverse reports have described how various types of adhesive systems cause disastrous pulp necrosis, chronic severe inflammation or failure to stimulate any pulp reactions. This article reports on the effects of five common adhesive systems and how they compare in terms of pulp injury as measured by odontoblast survival or dentin regeneration and reactionary dentin formation. One hundred and thirty Class V pulp, non-exposed cavities were prepared in non-human primate teeth and were restored with five different adhesive systems. After a period of time between 3 and 172 days, the teeth were extr

Sorption of water by filled-resin composites.

Water-sorption studies discriminate between passive (those containing Sn, Nb, and Ti) and reactive (those containing Zn and an alloy of CoCrMo) metal-resin composites. The reactive ones form hydrated oxides or hydroxides or both, in accord with a parabolic rate law. The nature of the chemical reaction is elucidated in two instances by analysis of the resultant gases.

Core Buildup Composite Resins Bond Strength to Dentin and Microhardness Using Universal Adhesives.

The peer-reviewed literature on the use of universal adhesives (UAs) with core build-up composite resins (CBCRs) is limited. UAs may enhance the polymerization of dual-cured composite resins, leading to increased microhardness due to the "touch-cure" effect. This study compared the dentin bond strengths and microhardness of CBCRs bonded with UAs. A total of 480 bovine incisors were randomly allocated into 20 groups (n = 24). Two dual-cured CBCRs, ParaCore (PrCore) and Gradia Core (GrCore), one light-cured CBCR, Clearfil Photo Core (PhotoCore), and Filtek Z250 (Z250) were evaluated. For the dua
