The Comparison of Dental Caries Severity on Stunting and Non-stunting Toddlers in Kalisat, Jember, Indonesia.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Nutritional deficiency in stunting toddlers is closely related to the calcium deficiency which is the most important component of the formation of bone and tooth structure. Deficiency of calcium can delay tooth eruption and increase the risk of dental caries. Little is known about the difference in dental caries severity on stunting and non-stunting toddlers in Kalisat, Jember, Indonesia. The study aims to examine the differences between the severity of dental caries on stunting and non-stunting toddlers. METHODS: This was an analytic observational study with a cros

Mesenchymal Stem Cells Derived from Human Inflamed Dental Pulp Exhibit Impaired Immunomodulatory Capacity In Vitro.

INTRODUCTION: Dental pulp stem cells (DPSC) are very attractive in regenerative medicine. In this study, we focused on the characterization of the functional properties of mesenchymal stem cells derived from DPSCs. Currently, it is unknown whether inflammatory conditions present in an inflamed dental pulp tissue could alter the immunomodulatory properties of DPSCs. This study aimed to evaluate the immunomodulatory capacity in vitro of DPSCs derived from healthy and inflamed dental pulp. METHODS: DPSCs from 10 healthy and inflamed dental pulps (irreversible pulpitis) were characterized accordi

Relation between pulpal neuropeptides and dental caries.

INTRODUCTION: Dental pulp has neural fibers that produce neuropeptides like Substance P (SP) and calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP). The inflammation of dental pulp can lead to an increase amount of SP and CGRP release, especially in symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Therefore, it can be assumed that neuropeptides have some role in the progression of inflammation of the dental pulp. The aim of this study was to determine the relation between the presence and concentration of neuropeptides in dental pulps of carious teeth caries. MATERIALS AND METHODS: For this purpose, pulpal tissues wer

Pulp stones can help in detection of calculus in the kidneys and/or in the bile--fact or fiction?

BACKGROUND: Pulp stones or denticles are frequently found in the dental pulp; there is, however, scarce evidence about this phenomenon. Regardless of the obvious endodontic problem of inhibiting access to the canals and their further treatment, they have not been given great importance. The latest experiences of scientific and practical research, including examinations of dental calcifications and their association with calcifications/calculi in the organism, have not been included in the literature. AIM: To investigate the possible association between dental calcifications and calculi in the

Pulp vitality and histologic changes in human dental pulp after the application of moderate and severe intrusive orthodontic forces.

INTRODUCTION: Orthodontic forces produce a series of changes in dental pulp. However, no one has attempted to investigate the incidence of pulp necrosis after orthodontic therapy in the clinic. In this study, we aimed to investigate pulp vitality and histologic changes after the application of moderate and severe intrusive forces. METHODS: Twenty-seven adolescent patients were assigned to 1 of 3 groups: the control group of 3 subjects; the moderate-force group, with 12 subjects who received a 50-g force to the first premolars bilaterally; and the severe-force group, with 12 subjects who recei

Deep learning-based assessment of pulp involvement in primary molars using YOLO v8.

Dental caries is a major global public health problem, especially among young children. Rapid decay progression often necessitates pulp treatment, making accurate pulp condition assessment crucial. Despite advances in pulp management techniques, diagnostic methods for assessing pulp involvement have not significantly improved. This study aimed to develop a machine learning (ML) model to diagnose pulp involvement using radiographs of carious primary molars. Clinical charts and bitewing radiographs of 900 children treated from 2018-2022 at the University of Alberta dental clinic were reviewed, y
