Dentigerous cyst is a type of odontogenic cysts and generally occurs in the ages of twenties or thirties. Dentigerous cyst always includes a tooth which cannot complete the eruption process and occurs around the crown by the fluid accumulation between the layers of enamel organ. In rare cases, dentigerous cyst occurs in the first decade of life and develops in an immature permanent tooth as a result of a chronic inflammation of overlying nonvital primary tooth. In this report, a case of dentigerous cyst in primary dentition in a 5-year-old child patient and its treatment were presented. The de

INTRODUCTION: Dentigerous cysts (DCs) involving the orbit are extremely rare. The authors report a unique case of stand-alone orbital DC associated with ectopic canine tooth masquerading as a lacrimal sac diverticulitis with superadded preseptal cellulitis.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 21-year-old lady presented with left inferomedial swelling, associated with pain and redness of 1-week-duration. A lacrimal sac diverticulitis with preseptal cellulitis was suspected and imaging was requested in view of progression. Computed tomography scan of orbit revealed a well-defined heterogenous mass, with assoc

Dentigerous cysts are defined as a cyst originated by separation of the follicle of dental crown of a tooth unerupted. Although most dentigerous cysts are considered developmental cysts, some cases seem to have an inflammatory origin. The aim of this study was to show a case of an 8-year-old patient, male, presenting a lesion in maxilla with large proportions. Computed tomography scans showed a hypodense image, well-defined, associated to unerupted teeth. The case was treated by enucleation of the lesion under local anesthesia. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnostic suspicious

Hyperplastic follicular tissue and a dentigerous cyst are the two most common entities associated with the crown of an impacted tooth. However, other diagnostic possibilities, including odontogenic tumors should also be considered in the differential diagnosis of a pericoronal radiolucency. This article presents three cases of radiolucent lesions that were histologically diagnosed as an odontogenic tumor, and stresses the importance of histological evaluation of all pericoronal radiolucencies.

Dentigerous cysts form from accumulation of fluid between reduced enamel epithelium and the crown of an unerupted tooth. They cause several difficulties such as swelling, non-eruption of the involved teeth, and displacement of adjacent teeth, and thus require early detection and prompt treatment. Treatment ranges from marsupialisation to enucleation. Enucleation is rarely used in children compared with marsupialisation. This paper discusses successful use of enucleation for treating a dentigerous cyst and explains the need for such a radical procedure.

Dentigerous cysts are the second-most-common cysts occurring in the jaws. A dentigerous cyst is formed as a result of fluid accumulation in the reduced enamel epithelium surrounding an unerupted tooth. These cysts typically present as well-defined pericoronal radiolucencies either superior or lateral to the unerupted tooth. Dentigerous cysts involving the posterior maxillary teeth tend to grow into and fill the maxillary sinus and, hence, are discovered late. Posterior mandibular dentigerous cysts commonly extend well into the ramus. There are often no clinical symptoms, with the exception of

Developmental odontogenic cysts account for 10% of all cysts of the jaw. Dentigerous cysts are benign odontogenic cysts. They are associated with the crowns of unerupted teeth. A 24-year-old woman presented with headache, facial pain and facial swelling during the previous six months. Computed tomography revealed a dentigerous cyst in the right maxillary sinus floor. The cyst was removed and the tooth was extracted transnasally with the help of an endoscope. Our case was exceptional because it was seen in a rare area outside the dental area: it was located in the floor of the right maxillary s

An up-to-date review on dentigerous cysts is carried out and the fact that no report has been found in the medical literature on a similar case to that one of our patient is pointed out. The clinical picture, radiographic characteristics, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of these cases are described. Peculiarity of our patient because of the amount of teeth contained in the cyst, as well as persistence of deciduous teeth, is outlined.

A case report of a dentigerous cyst of the mandible with respiratory epithelium has been described. A review of the literature shows this to be only the fourth case reported. The three most current theories to explain this phenomenon have been presented.

BACKGROUND: Glandular odontogenic cyst (GOC) is a rare developmental cyst, comprising <0.5% of odontogenic cysts. Its overlap with other lesions, particularly dentigerous cysts (DCs), makes diagnosis challenging. This study aimed to compare the clinicopathologic characteristics of GOCs and DCs to aid in differential diagnosis and treatment planning.
METHODS: Patient records with GOC and DC from 1996 to 2025 were reviewed. Demographic, clinical, and radiographic data were collected, and histopathological slides were re-evaluated to assess eight epithelial features. GOC spectrum (GOCS) lesions

A dentigerous cyst is an odontogenic developmental cyst associated with the crown of an unerupted tooth. This article describes the case of a 7-year-old girl with painful swelling in the left facial region, prolonged retention of tooth No. 9d, and a displaced tooth No. 9 in eruption. Radiographic examination revealed an extensive radiolucent lesion of approximately 28 mm and displacement of teeth No. 10 and 11. Marsupialization was performed, teeth No. 8d and 9d were removed, and the swelling reduced immediately. At a 2-year follow-up, radiographs revealed that teeth No. 10 and 11 had erupted

BACKGROUND: Dentigerous cyst (DC) is one of the most common developmental odontogenic cysts. This hospital-based retrospective study evaluated the clinical and histopathological features of 338 DCs in Taiwanese patients.
METHODS: In this study, 338 consecutive cases of DCs were collected from January 1995 to December 2009. The demographic data and clinicopathological features of these DC cases were reviewed and analyzed.
RESULTS: The 338 DCs were taken from 332 patients (212 men and 120 women, mean age 33.0 years, range 5-83 years). There was a significant difference in the mean age between

The clinico-radiological features of 10 dentigerous cysts occurring in 6 patients are described. Dentigerous cysts are odontogenic cysts and may present directly as a painless jaw swelling or indirectly as an unerupted tooth. Radiologically, these cysts present as a pericoronal unilocular expansile translucencies the width of which exceeds 2.5 mm, with mandibular involvement predominating. Radiology plays an important role in detecting multiple cysts in a case presenting with a single cyst and also in detecting clinically asymptomic cysts in cases with delayed or non eruption of the teeth.

To salvage an uneruputed tooth within a dentigerous cyst, the retransplantation of the unerupted premolar involved in the dentigerous cyst was performed. In the present case a dentigerous cyst with the impacted maxillary second premolar of a 10-year-old boy was removed, because of the missing eruption after marsupialisation of the premolar 4 months earlier. Covering the crown and the one third of root, the cyst was removed from the tooth, and the premolar was retransplanted into a cavity created between the premolar and first molar in the maxilla. The tooth was fixed with resin and a twisted w

Motivated by the evidence that odontogenic keratocysts are associated with genetic alterations, we examined the possibility that development of other odontogenic cysts can be attributed to gene malfunctioning, in particular to the PTCH gene. Cyst epithelium was examined for polymorphism on chromosome 9q22.3, the region that contains the PTCH gene. Loss of heterozygosity (LOH) for the D9S287 marker and/or D9S180 marker was observed in about 50% of dentigerous cysts, whereas radicular cysts gave no indication of lesions in the PTCH region. As a more direct argument for PTCH involvement in cystic
