Effects of plant-origin binder sources in Asian catfish diets on growth, feed quality, blood chemistry, liver and gut health, and economic efficiency.

Natural polysaccharides have demonstrated considerable potential as binding agents in aquafeed formulations, enhancing water stability and reducing nutrient leaching and pellet disintegration in aquatic environments. In this study, four isoproteic diets (32% crude protein) were formulated using different binders: carboxymethyl cellulose (D0, control), purple fingerling potato (D1), taro root (D2), and glutinous rice (D3). Each diet was administrated to Asian catfish (Clarias batrachus) (mean initial weight: 6.66 ± 0.01 g) over a 90-day trial to evaluate growth performance, feed stability, whol

From emissions to solutions: The role of green energy, environmental policy stringency, and political stability in achieving BRICS' carbon neutrality goals.

Rapid economic growth in BRICS countries has significantly increased carbon dioxide emissions, creating serious challenges for global environmental sustainability and climate goals. While previous research has often examined emission drivers in advanced economies or considered isolated factors, a critical gap remains in understanding the combined influence of multiple key determinants in the diverse BRICS context. This study addresses this gap by analyzing the joint effects of energy efficiency, green energy, environmental policy stringency, political stability, trade openness, and economic gr

Economic collapse under epidemic-induced lockdowns and its prediction: A coupled dynamics approach.

The sudden outbreak of an epidemic poses a significant challenge to alleviating global poverty. To suppress the epidemic, governments impose restrictions on social and economic activities. While most studies discuss the indirect impact of social restrictions on disease and the economy, the effects of economic restrictions-such as workplace and business closures, workforce capacity limits, international trade and travel restrictions, and supply chain disruptions (collectively called economic lockdown)-exert a harsh impact on the economy, which remains largely overlooked. This study addresses th

Hidden health effects and economic burden of stroke and coronary heart disease attributed to ambient air pollution (PM2.5) in Tehran, Iran: Evidence from an assessment and forecast up to 2030.

Air pollution is one of the main causes of global disease burden, especially in low-income and middle-income countries. Estimation of the current situation and prediction of the future health effects of death and incidence of stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD) attributed to PM2.5 were done using BenMAP-CE software. Estimating and forecasting the economic burden of these diseases were done in 4 scenarios: Stability of the current PM2.5 concentration, annual 10 % reduction of PM2.5 concentration, reduction to 5 µg/m3, and reduction to 12 µg/m3, with three approaches for calculating the econ

Economic roots of cognitive decline: Tracing early-life shocks to late-life health.

This study investigates the long-term associations between early-life economic shocks and cognitive decline in later years, emphasizing the mediating roles of education, unemployment, and health-related factors. Using data from the Survey of Health, Ageing, and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), we examine the relationship between childhood economic adversity, such as parental job loss, poverty, and limited access to educational material at home, and cognitive performance in old age. Applying the Karlson-Holm-Breen (KHB) method, we assess how economic and health factors throughout life mediate this

More Than Health: Long-Term Care Insurance Reshaping Family Support in Aging China.

China's rapidly aging population has strained traditional family-based elder care, leading to the introduction of Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI) as a government-supported solution. Using data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) and employing Difference-in-Differences (DID) and Triple-Difference (DDD) methodologies, this study explores LTCI's impact on intergenerational financial transfers within households. The findings demonstrate that LTCI significantly increases financial support from elderly parents to adult children by reducing elder care-related economic bur

Latent class and time-to-event analyses of social determinants of health and COVID-19 vaccine uptake among Black women living with HIV.

Existing inequities are exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar to HIV, COVID-19 disproportionately affects Black and other communities of color. Among Black women living with HIV (BWLWH) this study examined the relationship between community level and individual level social determinants of health and time to COVID-19 vaccine uptake. Utilizing longitudinal data collected between February 2021 and May 2023, pre-pandemic experiences of microaggressions, economic stability, health behaviors, resilience, self-efficacy and trauma/violence were modeled using latent class (LCA) and time-to…

Menopause and the Social Determinants of Health.

This clinical perspective examines how social determinants of health (SDoH) such as economic stability, education and health literacy, health care access and quality, and social and community contexts shape menopause experiences and outcomes through a health equity lens. Menopause is not experienced uniformly: Black, immigrant, and LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer+) individuals and those with low income often face earlier symptom onset, greater symptom burden, and reduced access to evidence-based care due to structural inequities, economic barriers, and cultural stigma. Menop…

Analysis of the Impact of Disaggregates Government Expenditure on Economic Growth in Iraq.

BACKGROUND: Iraq heavily depends on oil revenues, which expose it to global oil price fluctuations as well as structural crises. Therefore, in the 2004-2023 crisis period, Iraq experienced economic shocks that followed the change in global prices and internal disturbances that undermined the stability and an enabling environment for growth. The government spending in the last five years has increased; however, its contribution to economic growth has been limited due to poor targeting on productive investment-driven expenditure and high reliance on current spending in the budget. METHODS: This

A New Componentwise Hölder Regression Method for Shrink-Horizon Economic Model Predictive Control.

This article proposes a novel learning-based Shrink-Horizon Economic Model Predictive Control (SHEMPC) algorithm for constrained nonlinear systems with unknown dynamics and additive disturbances. By combining data clustering and kernel techniques, a componentwise Hölder regression algorithm is customized to construct an accurate and sparse dynamics predictor. The kernel weights and Hölder matrices within each cluster are determined using a tailored Block Coordinate Descent (BCD) optimization method. Then, two error bounds of the regression-based predictor are estimated a priori for the design

Exploring the China-Pakistan economic corridor project performance during Covid-19 pandemic.

The outburst of the coronavirus into the global arena, first as a respiratory disease and later as a worldwide pandemic and health emergency … her hindered CPEC progress. Building mega-projects, such as the CPEC, is crucial in determining the economic stability of a nation such as Pakistan. Nevertheless, it is essential to consider that the implementation of infrastructure projects can be subject to delays due to the COVID-19 lockdown and travel restrictions. However, it is worth noting that there needs to …

Multi-Objective Optimal Dispatch of Integrated Energy Systems Guided by Dynamic Carbon Emission Factors.

Regional integrated energy systems (RIES) represent a promising approach for the energy transition and sustainable development, leveraging the flexible, coordinated operation of a multienergy system. With the growing penetration of renewable energy sources and the increasing complexity of energy management, the optimization of RIES necessitates the integration of demand response (DR) mechanisms. The optimization problems are increasingly characterized by multiobjective optimization. This study proposes a novel bilevel multiobjective optimization model for RIES, designed to minimize operational

[The democratic movement, cholera epidemic and public health reform in the Zurich canton (1867)].

In the summer of 1867 Zurich, Switzerland, was struck by a severe Cholera outbreak. Recent research suggests that the Cholera epidemic had s … e of a major social crisis. Exactly this was the case in Zurich during the 1860s. After a decade of economic stability and progress, a severe crisis simultaneously stuck Zurich's agriculture, textile industry and railway companies. The so called Democratic Movement threatened the existing political system; the old political establishment feared a political revolutio …

Drug and alcohol use in the former Soviet Union: selected factors and future considerations.

As new nations form out of the wreckage of the Soviet Empire, they will be encumbered by the persistent political, economic, and social problems that have plagued this region for centuries. Today, the leaders of the emerging central Eurasian area are focused solely on political and economic concerns. They are paying little attention to the drug use that, like the more traditional heavy alcohol use, is a means by which many people of this region escape the reality and manifold uncertainties of today's world. If and when the political and economic climate of the central Eurasian area stabilizes,

Public Health Effects of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons Exposure Through Air, Water, Soil, and Food in Ghana: Possible Economic Burden.

Exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) is a major threat to public health and economic stability, particularly in Sub-Saharan African countries such as Ghana. However, limited consolidated evidence exists on the extent of exposure, associated health outcomes, and economic impacts. This systematic review aimed to summarize available studies on health effects of PAH exposure in Ghana and assess potential economic implications. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and African Journals Online was conducted for studies published between January 2014 and January 202…

Perspectives on COVID-19-related relief measures and experience of food insecurity among low-wage worker families in two US cities.

To explore how 2020-2022 federal COVID-19 relief measures impacted food security, economic hardship and housing stability, we interviewed low-income workers in Minneapolis, MN and Raleigh, NC. Participants were a subset of 40 from a larger study with at least one child. We identified themes including mechanisms of potential impact: food assistance, increased household cash, promoting housing stability, and reducing household expenses. No single measure ameliorated hardship. Participants reported healthier food behaviors. Flexible relief measures allowed people to spend according to their needs
