Background Synovial sarcoma is an aggressive soft tissue cancer of extremities mainly and rare in head and neck region, whereas rarest in ethmoidal sinus as only three cases have been reported till date. Case Reports We managed two cases of synovial sarcoma who presented with nasal obstruction, epistaxis, and swelling around the nasofacial region. Endoscopic nasal biopsy and immunohistochemistry markers confirmed synovial sarcoma in both the cases. While one case was managed by surgery and chemoradiation, the second patient received two cycles of ifosfamide-based chemotherapy and succumbed a

BACKGROUND: Synovial sarcoma is a high-grade, soft tissue, malignant disease associated with poor outcome. Typically, synovial sarcoma involves the extremities, with less than 10 per cent of cases occurring in the head and neck region. Synovial sarcoma of the paranasal sinuses is a rare entity. This paper presents a case of an elderly patient with synovial sarcoma of the ethmoidal sinus.
CASE REPORT: An 80-year-old woman who had right epistaxis underwent nasal endoscopy and biopsy. The pathology indicated synovial sarcoma and the patient underwent endoscopic excision of the tumour.

In the "standard" anatomic description, the frontal bone and cribriform plate of the ethmoid bone form the base of the anterior cranial fossa. We studied the development of the ethmoidal bone as well as its relations to the frontal bone in macerated disarticulated skull bones and macerated skull bases of 35 individuals between 9 and 35 years of age. In 19 cases the ethmoidal cells were completely or partly uncovered by the frontal bone. In 6 of 19 cases the frontal bone did not cover any of the ethmoidal cells; in 10 further cases the frontal bone covered only the anterior and in 3 cases the a

UNLABELLED: We screened an in-house library of ~ 900 natural and naturally derived compounds to identify potential inhibitors targeting the BPLF1 deubiquitinase of Epstein-Barr virus, a significant regulator of the NF-κB signaling pathway and viral DNA replication. The virtual screening results 11 compounds demonstrated substantial binding affinities with docking scores ranging from - 6.56 kcal/mol to -8.95 Kcal/mol. Out of these, five compounds (C4, C5, C6, C7, and C11) showed desirable drug-like characteristics, favorable pharmacokinetic properties with no toxicity, and non-allergenicity, an

Fibro-osseous lesions are common in the paranasal sinuses. The incidence of fibrous dysplasia (FD) in the ethmoid sinus is rare. Patients with such lesions are usually asymptomatic until the lesion is large enough to start compressing adjacent structures and organs. Common presentations include nasal obstruction, headache, eye swelling, and diplopia. Meanwhile, less common signs can include decreased visual acuity. We present a case of a 65-year-old male with comorbidities who presented to the clinic complaining of a chronic nasal obstruction, headache, and decreased visual acuity in the right…

This paper presents a rarely occurring tumor of nasal cavity and ethmoid sinus (esthesioneuroblastoma--2nd grade of the pathological grading system proposed by Hyams). It was observed in a woman aged 68. Moreover, there were described surgical therapy and repair of cerebral spinal fluid leaks using composite bone/mucosal graft of the lower turbinate as a donor material. The treatment was successful.

A 55-year-old man presented with progressive "enophthalmos" of his ocular prosthesis, 12 years after secondary orbital implant placement following evisceration of a severe traumatic globe rupture. The medial orbital wall was found to be displaced inwards, associated with ethmoid sinus opacification, and consistent with post traumatic silent sinus syndrome affecting the ethmoid paranasal sinuses. The authors present the clinical and radiological findings, review the literature on silent sinus syndrome of nonmaxillary sinuses, and discuss the possible mechanisms for his presentation.

IMPORTANCE: Frontal sinus and naso-orbital-ethmoid (NOE) fractures are among the most challenging injuries in the treatment of maxillofacial trauma.
OBJECTIVE: To summarize the current knowledge regarding frontal sinus and NOE fractures and to present some of the more recent, evidence-based literature to support current treatment recommendations.
EVIDENCE REVIEW: A PubMed search of articles from 1990 through 2013 was performed. Search terms included frontal sinus fracture, NOE fracture, naso-orbito-ethmoid fracture, naso-ethmoid-orbital fracture, and nasoethmoid fracture.
FINDINGS: Advances

BACKGROUND: Mucoceles are epithelium-lined cavities in the paranasal sinuses filled with mucus. They develop because of scarring and obstruc … ed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging of the orbits. These results showed a large right ethmoid sinus mucocele, with bony erosion and orbital invasion, prompting an immediate surgical referral.
CONCLUSION: Mucoceles may arise from any of the paranasal sinuses and, because of the close proximity of these spaces to the orbit, may initially manifest w …

A seven-year-old boy complained of intermittent epistaxis for several months. Computerized tomography (CT) scans showed increased soft tissue density over the left ethmoid sinus. Endoscopic sinus surgery was used to remove the mass completely. The pathological report was craniopharyngioma. No other focus of lesion was found, and he continues to do well.

PURPOSE: To compare two types of CT acquisition parameters: CT scan of the facial bone and CT scan of the sinuses, for studying the ethmoidal slit and its relationship with the frontal sinus and anterior ethmoidal artery.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective study of 145 scans of the sinuses and 79 of the facial bones performed between 2012 and 2016. On each scan, the visibility of the ethmoidal slits, their length, their distance from the ethmoidal artery, and their relationship with the anterior and posterior wall of the frontal sinus were studied.
RESULTS: The ethmoidal slit was better vi

Traumatic globe dislocation into the paranasal sinuses is a rare condition. Globe displacement with preserved integrity can result in functional and cosmetic recovery with rapid and appropriate intervention. In this article, we discuss the presentation and treatment of globe dislocation into the ethmoid sinus in a 36-year-old patient who presented to the emergency department with the complaint of vision loss due to a fall.

PURPOSE: To report a case of anterior ethmoid mucocele with atypical location and ophthalmic symptomatology.
CASE REPORT: A 18-year-old patient presented with epiphora and swelling of the left medial canthus; craniofacial scan revealed an ethmoid mucocele. We describe a surgical technique for the treatment of mucoceles, illustrated with CT and endoscopy images.
CONCLUSION: Mucoceles present with various clinical and radiological manifestations, and in particular may have an ophthalmologic impact. Treatment is surgical, with various techniques available. Epiphora may be an unusual presentatio

PURPOSE: To report a rare case of massive ethmoidal adenocarcinoma with orbital invasion but minimal ophthalmic symptoms on presentation.
METHODS: Case report of a 69-year-old, otherwise healthy, retired carpenter who was referred for treatment of bilateral senile cataract.
RESULTS: A relative afferent pupillary defect and sectorial disc atrophy on ophthalmic examination led to further investigation and identification of an extensive ethmoidal neoplasm with orbital invasion. An incisional biopsy was performed and histopathologic examination revealed an adenocarcinoma of low-grade malignancy.

Chordomas are dysembryogenic tumors originating from the notochordal process. The case of a 9-month-old male infant with involvement of the ethmoidal sinus and anterior fossa is reported. These tumors are rare in ENT practice and in children arise in the clivus. The diagnosis was made by biopsy, CT and MRI. Surgery is the only effective treatment, with chemotherapy and radiotherapy having little value. The complication and relapse rates are high.
