Return-to-play (RTP) decisions often represent a challenge to physicians caring for athletes. The multifaceted and unique nature of each RTP decision makes standardization of the decision-making process impossible and demands of the physician thoughtful consideration of all competing interests and variables. Such difficult medical decisions are further complicated by unique ethical and legal considerations. Recent large-scale clinical investigations have shown the overwhelming importance of early intervention in acute myocardial infarction (AMI), thereby underlining the crucial role of emergency medical technician-paramedics (EMT-Ps) in helping to assess and treat heart attack victims. Some of these studies have included administration of thrombolytic drugs by paramedics. Emergency medical service teams equipped with 12-lead ECGs, diagnostics, checklists, and 2-way communications are becoming the standard in many communities in developed countries and help reduce in-hospital delays in diagnosis.

Expeditions involve high exercise volumes and severe energy deficits, which can decrease areal bone mineral density (aBMD), indicative of disturbed calcium homeostasis. This study investigated the effect of a prolonged Antarctic crossing on aBMD and bone calcium balance. Nine individuals (six men and three women) each hauled 85 kg sledges over 911 km in 47 days. Spondylolysis is the most common identifiable cause of back pain in active adolescents, who often cope with the condition by hoping it will just go away. In 1803 [corrected], Charles IV King of Spain, sent an expedition to perform widespread ("arm to arm") vaccination against smallpox in the American colonies. The expedition led by Dr Francisco Javier de Belmis visited Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, Perú, Bolivia and Chile. A poem to the vaccine was written by Andres Bello, the first rector of the University of Chile, then in Venezuela (1804). The expedition reached Chile in 1807, led by Dr Julián Grajales. This expedition was the most important medical act in the history of the Spanish colonies.
