Multi-omics analysis of the mechanism of alfalfa and wheat-induced rumen flatulence in Xizang sheep.

Rumen flatulence is a diet-related rumen disease in ruminants. This study induced a rumen flatulence model in Xizang sheep using alfalfa (HRF) and wheatgrass (MRF). The aim was to understand the rumen microbiota diversity in healthy and pathological states, host-microbiota interactions, and the molecular mechanisms of rumen flatulence. Results showed that the pH in the HRF and MRF groups was lower than that in the natural grass group (LRF). SCFA concentrations varied between groups: in HRF, 2-BA and CA increased; in MRF, 4-MVA and 5-MCA rose. Microbial analysis indicated that the alpha- and be…

Exploring Dietary- and Disease-Related Influences on Flatulence and Fecal Odor Perception in Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Background/Objectives: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affects gastrointestinal function and may alter fecal and flatulence odor (intestinal odor) due to changes in inflammation, the gut microbiome, and metabolism. Investigating the relationship between dietary habits and intestinal odor in IBD is critical given the relationship between diet, gut health, and microbiome diversity. Methods: We performed a cohort analysis of a monocentric, cross-sectional study at a tertiary referral center and compared the perception of fecal and flatulence odor in 233 IBD patients (n = 117 women) with that of …

Adherence to global diet quality score in relation to gastroesophageal reflux disease and flatulence in Iranian adults.

INTRODUCTION: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and flatulence are both prevalent afflictions and negatively impact the quality of life. This study aims to determine the relationship between the Global Diet Quality Score (GDQS), a novel metric based on the Prime Diet Quality Score with GERD and flatulence in Iranian adults. METHODS: The cross-sectional study was conducted among 6202 adults in the context of the Shahedieh cohort study accomplished. Dietary intakes of participants were collected by food frequency questionnaires (FFQs). To calculate GDQS, 25 food groups were comprised (16 h…

The effect of chamomile on flatulence after the laparoscopic cholecystectomy: A randomized triple-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial.

OBJECTIVE: Flatulence is one of the main post-operative Ileus-related complications, especially in abdominal surgeries, which can be largely due to the effects of anesthesia. There are various kinds of therapeutic methods used for their treatment though sometimes their effects are limited. Thus, it is essential to find alternative treatments to decrease the implications of the disease. The present study is aimed to investigate the effect of Chamomilla recutita on flatulence after Laparoscopic cholecystectomy. METHODS: This randomized controlled trial was carried out in 2020 at Isfahan in Iran…

Gut microbiota and metabolic alterations in participants with flatulence identify Faecalibacterium prausnitzii as a key microbial target for clinical intervention.

Flatulence is closely associated with gut dysbiosis, yet the characteristic microbial signatures, metabolic alterations, and actionable intervention targets remain unclear. This limited mechanistic understanding has hindered the development of precise microbiota-based strategies for managing flatulence. Here, we found that participants with flatulence exhibited marked shifts in gut microbial functions and fecal metabolic profiles compared with healthy controls, characterized by enhanced abnormal fermentation, enrichment of oxidative stress-related functions, elevated low-grade inflammatory sig…

A Refractory, Gas-Predominant Subgroup of Irritable Bowel Syndrome Markedly Improved With Relatively Long-Term Paroxetine Treatment: A Preliminary Study.

Background The intestinal-gas symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are particularly bothersome and refractory. In our Japanese clinical practice, we often experience IBS patients with severe complaints of excess 'flatulence' or 'rumbling' as well as bloating, and have considerable difficulty in treating them. However, few studies have been reported on this subgroup of IBS for whom intestinal-gas symptom is the most bothersome (gas-predominant IBS). Aims The aim of this study was to characterize the features of refractory gas-predominant IBS and to find an effective treatment strategy. Me…

Long-term results after laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

As part of a continuing audit of patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy (which now numbers over 1500) 468 of the 508 patients (92.1 per cent) operated on between October 1989 and March 1991 were studied between 350 and 988 days after the operation (mean 19 months). A questionnaire was filled in by each patient before operation and at the late follow-up visit. Eight specific symptoms were sought-non-colicky pain, colic, abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, flatulence, and dietary restriction. The result of each operation was assessed by two surgeons and by the pat…
