Primary hyperhidrosis is a common disorder affecting children and adolescents, and it can have a significant negative psychosocial effect. The efficacy of nebulized glycopyrrolate compared with metaproterenol was evaluated in 46 patients with acute asthma. In a double-blinded, randomized fashion, patients received, as sole therapy, either 2 mg of glycopyrrolate or 15 mg of metaproterenol every 2 h over a 6-h study period. The in vitro inhibitory effect of glycopyrrolate and atropine on the hydrolysis of benzoylcholine at 50.0 microM concentration was determined in the plasma of 6 healthy volunteers at 37 degrees C and at 240 nm by the ultraviolet spectrophotometric method of Kalow. IMPORTANCE: Postoperative urinary retention (POUR) is a frequent and burdensome complication following urogynecologic surgery. Studies in other specialties suggest intraoperative glycopyrrolate may increase POUR risk; however, this association has not been explored in prolapse surgery, where baseline rates of POUR are higher and same-day surgery is now standard.

A descriptive case report of a 22-year-old woman, scheduled for elective laparotomy who had a respiratory arrest after premedication with inj glycopyrrolate and ondansetron. Respiratory arrest is an uncommon side effect of glycopyrrolate with very few published reports. Ondansteron can also cause respiratory arrest, however is most often associated with bradycardia. This patient had tachycardia and respiratory arrest and is suggestive of glycopyrrolate-induced respiratory arrest. This case report highlights the importance of strict vigilance by the anaesthesiologist even during premedication.

Drooling is a pathologic condition that is commonly associated with neurodisability and poor quality of life. An elderly dementia patient and an adult cancer patient suffered from persistent drooling, and they were both prescribed glycopyrrolate 0.5-mg sorbitol lollipops, per recommendation of their local compounding pharmacist.
