We constructed a recombinant varicella-zoster virus (VZV) Oka vaccine strain (vOka) that contained the mumps virus (MuV) hemagglutinin-neuraminidase (HN) gene, inserted into the site of the ORF 13 gene by using the bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) system in Escherichia coli. A cDNA library was constructed in lambda gt10 using mRNA purified from cells infected with parainfluenza virus type 2 (PIV2). BACKGROUND: Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) results from a lack of nutrients transferred to the developing fetus, particularly oxygen and glucose. Increased expression of the cytoprotective mitochondrial peptide, humanin (HN), and the glucose transporter 8, GLUT8, has been reported under conditions of hypoxic stress. However, the presence and cellular localization of HN and GLUT8 in IUGR-related placental pathology remain unexplored. Urabe AM9 mumps virus vaccine causes post-vaccination meningitis. Two variants of Urabe AM9 virus differ in their replication efficiency in human nerve cells, HN-A(1081) variant being more neurotropic than HN-G(1081). The effect of interferon (IFN) on viral replication and transcription was analyzed. Incubation of trifluoperazine, a local anaesthetic, at concentrations higher than the cmc with Sendai virus particles produces the selective solubilization of the haemagglutinin neuraminidase (HN) and matrix (M) proteins. This phenomenon involves aggregation of the Sendai virions and therefore the separation of HN and M from the rest of the particle can be performed by bench centrifugation. The supernatant contains the HN and M proteins and HN, once inserted into liposomes, elicits its own biological activities. Therefore, the method seems suitable for purifying large amounts of HN.

We studied three Fur-regulated systems of Listeria monocytogenes: the srtB region, that encodes sortase-anchored proteins and a putative ABC transporter, and the fhu and hup operons, that produce putative ABC transporters for ferric hydroxamates and haemin (Hn)/haemoglobin (Hb) respectively.
