[Hashimoto's disease with pregnancy].

That normal pregnancy, PIH and Hashimoto's were all closely related with human immunology has been reported by many authors. Six pregnant women with Hasimoto's were studied. Among them four were complicated with PIH, and one with postpartum transient hypothyroidism. MCHA and TGHA were slightly decreased in 2 cases during pregnancy and one congenital hypothyroidism happened among 6 neonates. Our data indicates that pregnancy and Hashimoto's can affect each other.

Celiac disease in children and adolescents with Hashimoto Thyroiditis.

AIM: The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical and laboratory findings and determine the prevalence of celiac disease (CD) in children with Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT). MATERIAL AND METHODS: The data of a total of 80 patients with positive anti-thyroid antibodies who were aged between 6 and 17.9 years were retrospectively studied. Age, gender, complaints at the time of presentation, family history of thyroid disorders, clinical and laboratory findings were recorded. The levels of thyrotropin, free thyroxin, thyroid autoantibodies (thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies), immunogl

Fetal thymus size in pregnant women with Hashimoto disease.

PURPOSE: This study compared fetal thymic-thoracic ratios and fetal thymus transverse diameter measurements in pregnant women with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) and non-immune hypothyroidism. METHODS: The study included a total of 141 pregnant women in three groups: 41 with HT, 50 with non-immune hypothyroidism, and 50 healthy individuals. Fetal thymus transverse diameter and thymic-thoracic ratio were compared between these groups. RESULTS: The mean fetal thymic-thoracic ratio was greater in pregnant women with HT than in the healthy controls (p = 0.031). Mean fetal thymus transverse diamete

[100 years of Hashimoto thyroiditis, still an intriguing disease].

INTRODUCTION: In 1912 Japanese physician Hashimoto Hakaru described 4 patients with chronic thyroid disease. The histopathology findings exa … then unrecognized autoimmune disorder, or modify its course from hypothyroidism to hyperthyroidism. Hashimoto disease even 100 years after the discovery may surprise with one of its many faces.

[Autoimmunological and allergic disorders with Hashimoto and Graves disease].

Graves disease and Hashimoto disease are due to inappropriate activation of immunological system and production of the antibodies against thyroid gland. The aim of the study was to estimate potential risk of other autoagressive and allergic disease in patients with Hashimoto or Graves disease. 255 patients with Graves disease (216 females and 39 males) and 69 patients (63 females and 6 males) mean age 53.6 +/- 13.7 years were examined. The control group consists of 200 patients (175 females and 25 males) mean age 61.98 +/- 14.35 years with nodular goitre. There were 74 cases (i.e. 22.8%) of co…

Myopathy in patients with Hashimoto's disease.

Hashimoto thyroiditis (HT) is an autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland. Patients may present or not a hypothyroid state, and frequently have manifestations of myopathy. The present work was aimed to assess the clinical symptoms and signs of skeletal muscle alterations in HT, describe the muscular pathological changes and relate them to the functional thyroid status and to the autoimmune condition of the patient. Clinical and laboratory studies were performed in ten HT patients and three control subjects (hormonal levels and electromyography). Biopsies from their vastus lateralis of quadricep

[The importance of selenium in Hashimoto's disease].

The aim of this study was to present the current state of knowledge on the role of selenium in the treatment of Hashimoto's disease. In recent years, the number of cases of autoimmune Hashimoto's thyroiditis - a chronic disease that usually leads to hypothyroidism - has increased. Most patients have elevated levels of anti-TPO antibodies. The presence of these antibodies has an effect on subsequent thyroid damage. So far we have not developed an effective, standard therapy of this disease. However, more attention is being paid to the relationship between supplementation of selenium deficiency

[Vitamin D and Hashimoto's disease].

It is probably that vitamin D may play an important role in the pathogenesis of Hashimoto's disease. Previous studies have shown a higher incidence of vitamin D deficiencies in patients with Hashimoto's disease compared to healthy subjects. Probably the severity of Hashimoto's disease may affect serum 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25(OH)D) concentrations. In addition, a negative correlation between serum 25(OH)D concentrations and the level of antithyroid antibodies was observed. Moreover, vitamin D supplementation seems to be effective in reducing the levels of thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodie

Immunogenetics of Hashimoto's and Graves' diseases.

Haplotypes of the human major histocompatibility complex (HLA) and the immunoglobulin allotype (Gm) were analyzed in all 243 members of 37 families in which 2 or more first degree relatives had Graves' disease. In 10 families with 70 members where 1 or more first degree relatives had Hashimoto's disease, 26 (37%) had Graves' disease, and 14 (20%) had Hashimoto's disease. In the other 27 families, consisting of 173 members, 70 (40%) had Graves' disease, and none had Hashimoto's disease. The disease-associated haplotypes of HLA and Gm for each family were identified by determining the haplotypes
