Evaluating the quality of Internet health resources in pediatric urology.

PURPOSE: Many patients and their parents utilize the Internet for health-related information, but quality is largely uncontrolled and unregulated. The Health on the Net Foundation Code (HONcode) and DISCERN Plus were used to evaluate the pediatric urological search terms 'circumcision,' 'vesicoureteral reflux' and 'posterior urethral valves'. Early retirees under Social Security: health status and economic resources.

Some proposals to change the Social Security program to ensure long-run solvency would reduce or eliminate benefits for early retirees. This article documents the health and financial resources of Old-Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) beneficiaries aged 62-64. It identifies a substantial minority of early retirees who might be economically vulnerable if either the early eligibility age or normal retirement age was raised. Attention is directed at the extent to which poor health limits work in this age group and the extent to which curtailment of early OASI benefits might lead to increases in

Community resources and mental health of older women living alone.

The relationship between community resources and mental health was examined in a community sample of 807 women 65 years and older. Results indicate that those living alone are no more depressed or cognitively impaired than those in other living arrangements, but they are less likely to believe someone will be available to assist them for a long or short time or in an emergency. In addition, those living alone who have more neighbors and more children in the neighborhood are more likely to believe short and long-term community care will be available if needed.

Sulfurous thermal waters as nature-based health resources: a public health and sustainability perspective.

The sustainability of healthcare systems has become a central public health concern as chronic diseases, rising therapeutic burden, and environmental constraints increasingly challenge service delivery models. While pharmacological treatments remain essential, complementary low-resource interventions may play a role in selected chronic conditions if framed within evidence-informed and policy-relevant care pathways. This article presents a Perspective on sulfurous balneotherapy as a potential component of sustainable models of care, using the Saturnia sulfurous thermal system as a paradigmatic

Advancing the Actionability of Mental Health Information: Identifying Online, Evidence-Based Mental Health Resources.

To improve the dissemination and actionability of mental health research, many mental health professionals have developed online informational resources to increase the general public's awareness of mental health difficulties and available treatments. Yet, limited information exists on the quality and scope of these resources. This study aimed to explore the scope and quantity of online, free, evidence-based mental health resources. Fifty-two mental health professionals nominated 178 resources, which predominantly consisted of homepages and links to more information. When reviewing the origina…

Apps and Digital Resources for Child Neurodevelopment, Mental Health, and Well-Being: Review, Evaluation, and Reflection on Current Resources.

BACKGROUND: An increase in the prevalence of neurodevelopmental conditions worldwide, alongside resource constraints within clinical services, has led to increased interest in health information technologies, such as apps and digital resources. Digital tools are often viewed as a solution to bridge this divide and to increase supports for families. There is, however, a paucity of research that has evaluated digital health tools, their potential benefits for child neurodevelopment and associated concerns (eg, mental health, well-being), and their benefit for families. OBJECTIVE: This study con

A Health- and Resource-Oriented Perspective on NSLBP.

Nonspecific low back pain (NSLBP) is an important health issue of our time. Personal as well as economic factors, like suffering pain and experiencing disability on the one hand and enormous and still increasing costs to the economy and society on the other hand, display the importance of the matter. Tremendous research has been conducted in the last few decades on NSLBP. A PubMed search (June 17, 2013) on "low back pain" provided 22,980 hits, and when specifying for "low back pain, systematic review," 3,134 hits were still generated. Most research has been done examining the development, risk

Organisational change and employee mental health: a conceptual framework integrating conservation of resources theory and the job demands-resources model.

Organisational change has intensified in recent years in response to shifting workplace expectations, rapid technological developments, the effects of COVID-19, and evolving work patterns. While such transformation is often necessary for organisational sustainability, it can increase uncertainty, alter job demands, and place emotional pressure on employees. Drawing on Conservation of Resources theory, this article suggests that employees may view change as a threat to valued personal and work resources, heightening stress responses. The Job Demands-Resources model further illustrates how incre
