A 62-year-old male undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) for over two years presented with sudden bloody peritoneal dialysate, but no other symptoms. Laboratory tests indicated anemia, and a computed tomographic scan revealed a 4.4 cm tumor in the liver with hemoperitoneum, leading to a diagnosis of ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), stage IIIB T4N0M0. The author presents the case-history of an injured woman who after a fall from a height developed among others haemobilia and haemoperitoneum. The source of haemorrhage into the biliary pathways and abdominal cavity was the gallbladder partly ruptured from its bed. A rare case of haemoperitoneum due to gallbladder rupture with intraluminal bleeding is reported. The importance of a coagulopathy in the etiology of the disease is pointed out: in the present case it was related to cirrhosis and anticoagulant treatment during dialysis sessions.

The authors describe an unusual origin of haemoperitoneum in a young woman. The hemoperitoneum appeared twice in a period of 10 months. The first attack was mild and atypic. In both cases the hemoperitoneum was preceded by a sexual intercourse, during which the ovary resp. the ovarian cyst were injured.
