INTRODUCTION: Plantar hidradenitis, one of several possible causes of painful papulo-nodular lesions of the foot in children and young adults, was recently described as the presence of characteristic lesions of the eccrine sweat glands.
CASE REPORT: A 15-year-old boy consulted for a sudden-onset painful eruption on the sole of the right foot. Physical examination revealed papulo-nodular erythromato-violet infiltrated lesions located on the anterior part of the right planta. Histology examination showed dense neutrophil inflammatory infiltration predominating at the dermo-hypodermic junction a…

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by the formation of nodules, abscesses, and fistulae at intertriginous sites. Pain, pruritus, malodor, and suppuration have a significant impact on quality of life for HS patients. Prevalence figures vary greatly in the literature from 0.05% to 4.1%, and HS is more common in females. The current understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of HS is incomplete; numerous hypotheses concern the interplay of lifestyle factors, skin microbiota, genetics, and a dysregulated immune system. Due to its phenotypic heter…

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory skin and systemic disease that is associated with considerable discomfort and a significant reduction in the quality of life. Despite a significantly increased understanding of the disease, the diagnosis is still delayed for many years. Delayed patient access to suitable treatment often leads to disease progression with increased surgical interventions and the occurrence of possible comorbidities. In recent years, there has been an improved understanding of the pathophysiology and, as a result the authorization of modern therapeutic agent…

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic and debilitating inflammatory disease derived from the pilosebaceous unit, that affects approximately 1% of the general population. Clinically, it is characterized by inflammatory nodules, abscesses, and tunnels in the intertriginous areas of the body, especially in the axillary, inguinal, and anogenital regions. The etiopathogenesis of HS is not completely understood, although it is considered to be multifactorial, and the result of a complex interaction between genetic, hormonal, environmental, and immunological factors. In this sense, several proin…

A 66-year-old obese (BMI 34) diabetic man, a former smoker who had quit 4 months ago, had a 20-year history of perianal, inguinal, and gluteal hidradenitis suppurativa. He presented to the office with persistent perianal and gluteal inflammation and drainage. He had had various surgical excisions of the affected area over the preceding 10 years. The patient was also following up with dermatology and was previously on doxycycline and infliximab with little improvement in his symptoms. On physical examination of his gluteal and perianal region, he had multiple areas of scarring and draining sinu…

Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Verneuil disease or hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) chronic, inflammatory, recurrent debilitating disease develops after puberty, with cutaneous and sub-cutaneous painfull nodules in the apocrine sweat glands regions (axillary inguinal and ano genital regions). Prevalence is 1% in Europe. Quality of life may be seriously impaired. HS is associated wtih over-weight, smoking, metabolic syndrome and some times with other inflammatory diseases (Crohn's colitis, spondylarthropathy). Main mechanism is occlusion of the hair follicule followed by lympho- histiocytic inflammatio…

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic disease characterized by recurrent, painful, deep-seated, rounded nodules and abscesses of apocrine gland-bearing skin. Subsequent suppuration, sinus tracts and hypertrophic scarring are its main features. Onset is usually after puberty, although it is most common during the third decade and may persist in old age. The disease tends to be chronic and may develop to subcutaneous extension leading to indurations, sinus, and fistula having a profound impact on the quality of life. The prevalence is 1% in several studies. Axillary and inguinal involvement is m…

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic, recurrent, suppurative cutaneous disease. Despite its incidence, optimal medical or surgical treatment remains unclear. This review describes the disease, ranging from pathogenesis to treatment and prognosis.
METHODS: Articles were sourced from PubMed and Medline, using the MeSH terms 'hidradenitis suppurativa' and 'acne inversa'. Selection of articles was based on peer review, journal, relevance and English language.
RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: On the basis of histological findings, the disease is now considered inflammatory and originating fro…

Tender, plantar nodules occurring in pediatric patients can be associated to different clinical entities, despite similar morphological feat … ical diagnoses were juvenile plantar erythema nodosum, insect bites, pressure urticaria and plantar hidradenitis; Laboratory and radiographic studies, as well as microscopic examination of a skin biopsy specimen, were performed. The lesions resolved spontaneously in about 10 days, without recurrence after a year. A skin biopsy specimen revealed dense neutrophi …

BACKGROUND: Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a recurrent, suppurative disease manifested by abscesses, fistulas, and scarring.
METHODS: We reviewed the literature to identify reliable information regarding epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical manifestations, evaluation and differential diagnosis, treatment, complications, and prognosis.
RESULTS: Hidradenitis suppurativa usually affects young women, with a prevalence of 0.3% to 4% in industrialized countries. Once considered to be "apocrine acne," HS is actually a defect of terminal follicular epithelium. Obesity, chemical irritants, or hyper…
