The paper describes a case of gastric histiocytic sarcoma in a 70 year-old man, which was diagnosed from immunohistochemical examination of biopsy and surgical specimens. It gives the data available in the literature on the morphological features of this rare cancer and its diagnostic criteria.

We describe a 56-year-old woman with histiocytic sarcoma involving the bone marrow. The neoplastic cells proliferated diffusely and showed occasional erythrophagocytosis. Immunohistochemically, the neoplastic cells were positive for CD68, lysozyme, CD4 and CD163, but negative for B- and T-cell markers, S100 protein and epithelial markers. The patient received multi-agent chemotherapy and is living at 22 months after diagnosis without recurrence. True histiocytic lymphoma/histiocytic sarcoma is an extremely rare, malignant histiocytic tumor. This report is of such a case in a 52-yr-old woman. Fine-needle aspiration (FNA) smears showed large pleomorphic nuclei, prominent nucleoli, moderately dense abundant cytoplasm, and scattered cells with cytoplasmic vacuoles and some with reniform nuclei. Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) and hemangiosarcoma (HSA) are uncommon and aggressive neoplasms that develop much more frequently in dogs than in cats. Breed-specific predispositions have been identified for both cancers. The development of novel diagnostics is underway and may aid in earlier diagnosis. Therapeutic approaches to HS and HSA depend on the stage of disease and may include surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy. The clinical, histological, immunophenotypic, and genotypic characteristics of two cases of cutaneous genuine histiocytic lymphoma are described. Both cases presented as cutaneous lesions. A 70-year-old male was admitted because of back pain due to peri-vertebral tumors. The histologic picture of a needle-biopsied tumor specimen showed pleomorphic large cell infiltration into the collagen fibers. On immunohistochemistry, these abnormal cells were positive for CD68, CD163 and lysozyme but negative for CD1a, 21, 30, and S100. Flow cytometric analysis also demonstrated that these cells were positive for CD13, 14, 38, 45, 56, and HLA-DR. The M5076 tumor, a reticulum cell sarcoma of histiocytic origin that arose spontaneously in the ovary of a C57BL/6 mouse, is highly invasive and metastatic. Regardless of the site of the primary tumor, this neoplasm rapidly and preferentially metastasizes to the liver and spleen, killing the host. Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is an ultra-rare hematopoietic neoplasm that frequently occurs in extranodal sites of adults. Clinically, HS demonstrates aggressive behavior and can arise de novo or in association with other hematological neoplasms. CT-scan findings of the brain in two children with true histiocytic sarcoma are described as well as their changes during therapy. Clinical features and differential diagnosis on CT-scan examination are discussed. Follow-up CT-scan during therapy is of value as an indicator of the response to therapy and possibly the long term prognosis.

An approximately 8-year-old male castrated Dutch rabbit was evaluated for a 6-day history of respiratory signs, which began as sneezing and progressed to tachypnea with anorexia.
