OBJECTIVE: Obstetrical hysterectomy still remains life saving operation. The aim of study was to determinate the frequency, indications and complications after the operation in the hospital in Zielona Góra, Poland.

UNLABELLED: An analysis of indications for obstetric hysterectomy in Central Teaching Hospital of Ministry of Internal Affairs in Warsaw between 1985-1997 is presented. There have been 15 caesarean or post partum hysterectomies over that period, which makes 0.11% of all deliveries and 0.67% of caesarean sections. All operations followed caesarean sections. Between the 1st July 1990 and the 30th June 1995, 34 caesarean hysterectomies and 2708 (22%) caesarean sections were performed from 12,227 births on the I. Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Semmelweis University Medical School in Budapest. As minimally invasive technology continues to be developed and refined, surgeons must be discerning in choosing the safest, cost-effective surgical approach associated with the best outcomes for each individual patient. Vaginal hysterectomy can be successfully accomplished even in challenging situations, such as previous pelvic surgery, nulliparity, uterine enlargement, or obesity. The goal of this study was to compare laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) with total abdominal hysterectomy (TAH). We performed a prospective comparison of the hospital courses of 30 women, 15 undergoing LAVH and 15 undergoing TAH, in a teaching hospital setting.
