Evaluating the Relationship-Oriented Information, Motivation, and Behavioral Skills Model of HIV Preventive Behaviors in Young Men Who Have Sex With Men.

Most HIV infections among young men who have sex with men (YMSM) occur within primary partnerships. Research on YMSM's knowledge, motivation, and behavioral skills regarding relationship-related HIV prevention, and how these correspond to HIV risk and partnership characteristics, is limited. We examined links among the Relationship-Oriented Information- Motivation-Behavioral Skills (RELO-IMB) model, relationship characteristics, and HIV risk in 96 YMSM. Condomless sex with a primary partner was associated with low relationship-related HIV preventive information, motivation, and behavioral skil

The Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills Model Revisited: A Network-Perspective Structural Equation Model Within a Public Sexually Transmitted Infection Clinic Sample of Hazardous Alcohol Users.

The information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model is useful for understanding sexual risk behavior, but has not been tested with hazardously-drinking sexually transmitted infection (STI) clinic patients, a subpopulation at greater HIV risk, or with a network-perspective sexual risk behavior outcome. Participants (N = 569) were STI clinic patients who screened positive for hazardous drinking and risky sexual behavior. Sexual risk behavior (SRB) was operationalized as a latent variable with three indicators: (1) number of sexual partners, (2) number of unprotected sex occasions with prima

Applying the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills model to a video-assisted HPV intervention to promote self-screening uptake: a qualitative study in Western Kenya.

INTRODUCTION: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the leading source of cervical cancer in Kenya. HPV, like other sexually transmitted infections, is stigmatised, which hinders efforts to address the disease. Education and empowerment are crucial in combating HPV stigma and increasing screening uptake. We conducted qualitative analyses of a video-assisted HPV educational intervention in Kisumu, Kenya to determine its impact on women's knowledge, motivation and behaviour for HPV and cervical cancer prevention. The stigma-responsive video featured a group discussion with an individual describing her e

HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis use with casual partners among men who have sex with men in Switzerland: testing an extended information-motivation-behavioral skills model.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is an effective medical option for HIV prevention. This study aimed to examine PrEP uptake among men having sex with men (MSM) in Switzerland and to develop and test a theoretical model explaining PrEP use. We used an anonymous self-administered online questionnaire to collect data. In 2022, we recruited a convenience sample of 743 HIV-negative MSM who had had anal sex with casual partners 12 months prior to the survey. Approximately one-third of the participants used PrEP with casual partners. We used structural equation modeling to test a theoretical model of

Willingness to Use Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP): An Empirical Test of the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) Model among High-Risk Drug Users in Treatment.

Evidence from recent pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) trials has demonstrated its safety and efficacy in significantly reducing the risk of HIV acquisition for those who are at considerable risk of acquiring HIV infection. With a rapid increase in the amount of research on the efficacy of PrEP for HIV prevention, complementary research on the willingness to use PrEP has grown, especially among MSM, but limited research has been focused among people who use drugs (PWUD). As part of the formative process, we utilized the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model of health behavior chan

HIV risk reduction for substance using seriously mentally ill adults: test of the information-motivation-behavior skills (IMB) model.

The information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) model (Fisher & Fisher, 1992) was used as the theoretical framework for predicting unprotected sexual behavior among substance abusing men and women diagnosed with serious mental illnesses (n = 320; 150 men and 170 women, primarily of minority ethnicity). In a structural equation model, gender, HIV transmission knowledge, and motivational variables of pro-condom norms and attitudes, and perceived susceptibility predicted behavioral skills markers: condom use skills and condom use self-efficacy. Along with the other variables in the model, cond
