We report the results of 126 iris reconstructions from 1979 to 1989 at the Rostock University Eye Clinic: 68 were operative, 34 laser treatments, and 24 Hema contact lenses with an iris structure. Intraocular leiomyomas are uncommon and usually occur in the ciliary body. Primary leiomyoma of the iris is both rare and a difficult diagnosis to make, given melanocytic tumors are more common and may be amelanotic. We are presenting a case of diffuse (ring) iris melanoma with secondary glaucoma, together with the differential diagnosis issues. The tumor extension and the high IOP imposed the enucleation of an eye that still had a good visual acuity. The pathology confirmed the diagnosis and showed the extension to the anterior chamber angle and the ciliary processes. The prognosis in this rare type of uveal melanoma is worse than in other iris melanomas.

A 25-year-old man presented with decreased vision in both eyes, approximately 4 years following bilateral bright ocular cosmetic iris implantation. On examination, he was found to have bilateral elevated intraocular pressures, anterior chamber cells and flare, chronic peripheral anterior synechiae and significantly reduced endothelial cell counts. Congenital ocular colobomas are due to incomplete closure of the fetal fissure during organogenesis. Ocular involvement can be variable ranging from a simple hole in the iris to a more severe involvement of the posterior pole (coloboma of the optic nerve, of the choroid, of the retina). We here report the case of a typical isolated bilateral iris coloboma. The study involved a 55-year old woman who discovered a typical inferonasal iris coloboma without involvement of the crystalline or of the posterior pole on ophthalmologic examination.

A small volume of concentrated fluorescein was used in a technique of fluorescein angiography in rabbits. The procedure is not accompanied by the usual risks of general anesthesia in rabbits.
