A rare case of bilateral multiple lutein cysts in pregnancy is reported. They do not require a radical operation because of spontaneous regression after delivery.

We are dealing with the case of a patient suspected of ectopic pregnancy. Laparoscopy showed a ruptured corpus luteum on the right side with haemoperitoneum. Four days after her discharge, she came back with a ruptured ectopic pregnancy in the outer third of the left tube. We emphasize the difficulties of an early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy and its etiology.

BACKGROUND: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a leading cause of blindness in infants, affecting 32% of hospitalized preterm infants. Oxidative stress, a primary pathogenic factor in ROP, triggers abnormal neovascularization of retinal vessels. Lutein, an antioxidant and the main component of macular pigment, is found in low levels in preterm infants and may help ameliorate ROP. The macular pigments lutein (L), zeaxanthin (Z), and meso-zeaxanthin (MZ) protect the human retina from light and oxidative stress. While L and Z are abundant in the human diet, MZ is nearly absent. Green leafy vegetables (GLVs) are a key element of healthy eating patterns and are an important source of lutein. To clarify the evidence for associations between GLVs and lutein intake and multiple health outcomes, we performed a review. A total of 24 meta-analyses with 29 health outcomes were identified by eligibility criteria. Dose-response analyses revealed that, per 100 g/d GLV intake was associated with a decreased risk (ca. 25%) of all-cause mortality, coronary heart disease and stroke.
