Genotoxicity assessments of alluvial soil irrigated with wastewater from a pesticide manufacturing industry.

In this study, organochlorine pesticides (OCP) and heavy metals were analyzed from wastewater- and groundwater- irrigated soils (control samples) by gas chromatography (GC) and atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS), respectively. Gas chromatographic analysis revealed the presence of high concentration of pesticides in soil irrigated with wastewater (WWS). These concentrations were far above the maximum residue permissible limits indicating that alluvial soils have high binding capacity of OCP. AAS analyses revealed higher concentration of heavy metals in WWS as compared to groundwater (GWS

Formation of biogenic amines throughout the industrial manufacture of red wine.

Changes in biogenic amines (histamine, methylamine, ethylamine, tyramine, phenylethylamine, putrescine, and cadaverine) were monitored during the industrial manufacture of 55 batches of red wine. The origin of these amines in relation to must, alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation, sulfur dioxide addition, and wine aging and the interactions between amines and their corresponding amino acids and pH were statistically evaluated in samples from the same batches throughout the elaboration process. Some amines can be produced in the grape or the musts (e.g., putrescine, cadaverine, and p

Microfiber Emissions from Textile Manufacturing Industries: A Critical Review.

Microfiber (MF) emissions from all types of textiles, natural, synthetic and semi-synthetic, are not well studied with most papers identifying domestic washing as the major cause of MF leakage; however, this ignores large-scale MF shedding during manufacturing. In the last 5 years, only 10 papers have focused on MF release during textile manufacturing, highlighting gaps in knowledge. A review of available literature demonstrated manufacturing as an important but underappreciated source of MF pollution and a potential opportunity for mitigation. Varying methods of analysis, levels of replicatio

Servitization capabilities and network-level performance in manufacturing: evidence from the plant engineering industry.

In volatile manufacturing environments, particularly in project-based plant engineering, servitization is regarded as a strategic approach to enhance competitiveness and resilience. However, empirical evidence on the relationship between servitization capabilities and firm- and/or network-level performance remains limited. This study develops and tests a multi-level framework to examine how classical and digital servitization capabilities, enabled by predictive/analytical artificial intelligence (AI), link to operational performance. A sequential mixed-methods design combined expert interviews

Textile industry manufacturing by-products induce human melanoma cell proliferation via ERK1/2 activation.

OBJECTIVES: Textiles used to make clothing can represent a source, often ignored, of chemicals potentially noxious to both skin and the whole organism. Among the most frequently produced potentially noxious chemical manufacturing by-products are formaldehyde (FA), nickel (Ni) and hexavalent chromium (Cr); they are of potential clinical interest as all are known to be carcinogenic to humans and to be potent skin sensitizers. The aim of this study was to investigate, in vitro, effects of these potentially dangerous compounds on two different melanoma cell lines. In particular, attention was focu

Odor impact patterns and health risks of various enterprises in the rubber product manufacturing industry.

The rubber product manufacturing (RPM) industry generates a large number of odor complaints because persistent and distinctive volatile compounds are released during the associated processes. Such compounds represent a nuisance and may pose health risks to nearby residents. Extensive monitoring and sampling identified 146 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from 20 enterprises across 6 subcategories of the RPM industry. Their odor impact patterns and health risks were assessed via dispersion modeling from both horizontal and vertical perspectives. Nine out of the 20 enterprises were found to cau
