It was observed from the literature that the incidence, clinical and radiological features of the mediastinal bronchogenic cysts are different in adults than in infant population. Five cases of bronchogenic cysts in the middle mediastinum were studied over a period of 22 years. The cysts were carina-based in four cases and paratracheal in one case. The airway compression was observed in four cases due to cysts. In case one the cyst compressed the right pulmonary artery and vein as well as both mainstem bronchi causing their stenosis and bulged into the left atrial chamber.

OBJECTIVE: To present our experience with mediastinal parathyroid cysts and summarize previously reported cases.
DESIGN: We retrospectively reviewed medical records and reviewed the pertinent literature.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The clinical, operative, and pathologic findings in 7 cases of mediastinal parathyroid cysts encountered at one institution and 31 cases previously reported in the literature are described.
RESULTS: Rarely, cysts may arise from an aberrant mediastinal parathyroid gland. Such cysts may manifest as a symptomatic mass, as an asymptomatic finding on roentgenography, or dur

Mediastinal cyst rarely becomes symptomatic due to compression of adjacent organs. In such case, treatment has to be considered. Either surgical extirpation or percutaneous decompression is the treatment of choice. A 53 years old woman who had been diagnosed with intractable epilepsy, mental retardation and Chilaiditi syndrome was admitted to our hospital because of dyspnea and difficulty in conversation. Chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a mediastinal cystic lesion which expanded to the right chest cavity and occupied most of the right chest cavity. That cyst was treated by percutaneous…

Thoracic duct cysts of the mediastinum are extremely rare. The etiology is related to a congenital or degenerative weakness in the wall of the thoracic duct. Symptoms may arise from compression of adjacent structures. Surgical resection is recommended and allows a definitive histological diagnosis. Postoperative chylothorax is the most frequent complication. We describe a 30-year-old female who presented to us with a history of dry cough and hiccups within the last four months.

Mediastinal hydatid cyst is extremely rare even in endemic areas, representing 0-4% of all hydatid cyst locations. We report the case of a 50-year old patient admitted to our Department with a mass in the left dorsal paraspinal region; chest X-ray showed posterior left basal opacity. Chest CT scan showed posterior mediastinal mass located in the left costovertebral gutter extending from D9 to D11. MRI confirmed the existence of a posterior mediastinal mass with endocanalar extension and spinal cord compression, first evoking cystic schwannoma. These radioclinical data were consistent with a ne

The most common causes of mediastinal masses are thymomas, lymphomas and neuromas. Mediastinal cysts, such as bronchogenic cysts, which are usually benign, are less common. We report the case of a 59-year-old woman with a history of progressive dysphagia. A computed tomography scan revealed a cystic lesion in the anterior mediastinum. The cyst was surgically resected and turned out to be a benign parathyroid cyst. The patient's symptoms disappeared after surgical removal. Both the serum calcium and parathyroid hormone levels were normal before, and after surgery. Parathyroid cysts are rare les…

INTRODUCTION: Mediastinal localization of hydatidosis is very rare even in endemic areas. The diagnosis is based on typical clinical and radiological criteria.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report a case of a mediastinal location of hydatidosis in a 60-year-old Arab man admitted for chest pain. The chest radiograph showed a rounded and homogeneous opacity. Computed tomography showed a right mediastinal cyst, without other thoracic or abdominal sites. Through a posterolateral thoracotomy, we found a cystic mass in the posterior mediastinum. The patient received a cystectomy with medical treatment base…

We report a case of a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst with back pain. The rarity of this lesion and even the more uncommon association of this lesion with symptoms of back pain prompted the report of this case.

Posterior mediastinal enteric cysts are infrequently reported. They are mostly asymptomatic 1. The incidence of gastroenteric cysts presenting during immediate neonatal period is rare. Alimentary tract duplications are other rare congenital anomalies and are commonly seen in relation to the ileum. However, the high incidence of associated thoracic or cervical vertebral anomalies with foregut cysts provide an early clue to the diagnosis 2. A detailed timely antenatal scan can increase the awareness regarding such rare condition and help in diagnosis and better outcome. The purpose of this case

The second documented case of mediastinal ectopic tissue presenting as a mediastinal mass is reported. Previously reported cases of ectopic pancreatic tissue in the thorax are reviewed in an attempt to explain this anomalous development.

Congenital bronchogenic cysts are usually located in the mediastinum or develop as intrapulmonary cysts. Gross examination of excised bronchogenic cysts shows them to be unilocular; histologically, these lesions are characterized by the presence of respiratory-type pseudostratified epithelium as well as small islands of cartilage and seromucinous glands. We report a case of a mediastinal bronchogenic cyst having pulmonary parenchyma within the cyst wall. The rarity of our case, the pathological and clinical features and the embryological development of bronchogenic cysts are briefly discussed.

PURPOSE: TCF7L2 mediated Wnt signaling cascade regulates glucose homeostasis by orchestrating expression, processing, and hepatic clearance of insulin. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) significantly overlap in pathophysiological features with insulin resistance as a central driver. While TCF7L2 is the most potent T2DM locus, studies on the association of TCF7L2 with PCOS are limited and inconclusive. Therefore, in addition to expression profiling, the association of TCF7L2 polymorphic variant rs7903146 with PCOS was evaluated.
METHODS: Using Rotterdam-2003

A 63-year-old man visiting a physician for slight dyspnea, attributed to a lump on his neck, was found in ultrasonography and computed tomography to have a cyst extending from the left lobe of the thyroid gland to the superior mediastinum. Radiography showed right deviation of the trachea. The cyst disappeared after fine-needle aspiration, but cyst fluid subsequently reaccumulated and he was admitted to our hospital. No abnormalities were detected in tests of thyroid and parathyroid function or blood chemical analysis. The cyst was surgically removed and diagnosed as a nonfunctioning parathyro
