The fine structure of the bone marrow in chronic megakaryocytic-granulocytic myelosis (CMGM) was studied in 5 nontreated patients to investigate possible malignant proliferation of megakaryocytes and the role of megakaryopoiesis in fibrillogenesis, terminating in osteomyelofibrosis. Essential thrombocytopenia is the myeloproliferative neoplasm associated with the JAK2/CALR/MPL mutation. It is characterized by an increase in thrombocytes and abnormal megakaryocytes. WHO established the diagnostic criteria for diagnosing the myeloproliferative disorder, which is the combination of molecular, clinical, and histological findings. The appearance of megakaryocytes on bone marrow biopsy is the distinguishing feature to identify myeloproliferative neoplasm, and this short review would like to emphasize the presentation of megakaryocytes in bone marrow biopsy.

Quantification of MK in blood and pulmonary sections was performed in rabbits with induced hemorrhagic shock (group I) and in control rabbits (group II). In idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) patients with histological signs of stronger auto-antibody synthesis (spleen follicle hyperplasia) more frequently revealed megakaryocyte changes due to antibodies and less frequently thrombocyte production compensatory increased than ITP patients with signs of weaker auto-antibody synthesis (spleen follicle normoplasia). The observation suggest that insufficient and frequently lacking compensatory increase of thrombocyte production in ITP is caused by an autoallergic disturbance of megakaryocyte maturation.

Purified human IgG from both serum and the culture of human splenic cells was radiolabeled with 125I. Dengue virus (DENV) affects not only peripheral immune cells but also hematopoietic progenitors in the bone marrow, particularly megakaryocytic precursors, which contribute to the thrombocytopenia characteristic of the disease. The present report describes a myeloproliferative disease, type megakaryocytic leukemia in three cats, 4, 8 and 11 years old. Clinically, the animals showed severe anemia. Neoplastic infiltrates were present in bone marrow, spleen, lymphnodes, liver and kidney. Two animals were FeLV positive.
