The spontaneous occurrence of blepharospasm and dystonic movements in face muscles, particularly those of the perioral and mandibular regions, has been named as Meige's disease which was first described by Henry Meige in 1910. We report the case of a woman with Meige's syndrome whose symptoms improved with the use of levetiracetam.

The described case of Meigs' [correction of Maigce] syndrome supports data on diversity of exudative pleurisies as some syndrome of manifestation of different pathological processes. Diagnosing and treatment by surgery technique of the female patient with Meigs' [correction of Magice] syndrome suggest expediency of examination by an obstetrician-gynecologist of all those women presenting with exudative pleurisy.

Primary Meige syndrome is a form of cranial dystonia of unknown cause. Only three postmortem studies have been reported, and the results of these studies have not been consistent. We have examined the brain of a 72-year-old man with typical primary Meige syndrome and found mild to moderate cell loss in the zona compacta of the substantia nigra, locus ceruleus, midbrain tectum, and dentate nucleus of the cerebellum. Also frequent Lewy bodies were present in pigmented nuclei of the brainstem. No abnormalities were detected elsewhere. These pathological findings support the notion that brainstem …

The triad of ascites, hydrothorax in association with a benign ovarian tumor is defined as Meig's syndrome. It is a rare clinical entity. A case of a 62 year-old woman whith dyspnoe, abdominal discomfort and ascites is presented. Clinical and ultrasonographic findings revealed extended palpable pelvic mass originating from the ovaries and ascites as well as hydrothorax of the left lung by chest radiography. The treatment method was surgical intervention. Cytomorphologic studies were positive for malignacy and adenocarcinoma cells were confirmed. The pathogenesis of the pleural and ascites flui

BACKGROUND: Meige syndrome is a cranial dystonia which presents with blepharospasm and oromandibular dystonia, identified in patients with Parkinson's disease, atypical Parkinsonism, and essential tremor. Treatment of Meige syndrome involves both pharmacological and surgical interventions including botulinum toxin injections, muscle relaxants, dopamine receptor antagonists, and anticholinergic drugs. Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has also been used to treat these patients with medically refractory Meige syndrome with a high degree of efficacy. Herein, we present a case of medically refractory M…

Frequently, blepharospasm is associated with involuntary movements of the platysma, lower face and masticatory muscles. Similarly, masticatory dystonia may occur in isolation or in combination with dystonia of other cranial and cervical muscles. The non-possessive and possessive forms of Meige and Brueghel syndromes have been variably and imprecisely ascribed to various anatomical variations of craniocervical dystonia. Herein, the origin of eponymic terms as applied to craniocervical dystonia is reviewed as support for proposed elimination of these eponyms from clinical usage. Although the ter

Pseudo-Meigs' syndrome is defined as malignant ovarian tumor leading to ascites or/and pleural effusion, whereas Meigs' syndrome is a triad of ascites, pleural effusion, and benign ovarian tumor. The removal of an underlying tumor leads to rapid improvement in patient symptoms in both conditions. It is a rare phenomenon, and only 1% of ovarian tumors account for Meigs' syndrome. We report a case of a 70-year-old female presented with complaints of shortness of breath, vaginal bleeding, bloating, and increased abdominal girth. X-ray and lab workup revealed pleural effusion and raised CA 125 (ca

2 patients showing oral-facial asymptomatic dyskinesia are reported. Clinically observed involuntary movements are the same as those described by Henry Meige in 1910 for the first time. An outstanding EMG feature is the recording of spontaneous potential bursts, both short and long in duration, that show synchronism when activity is registered from different facial muscles at the same time. Clinical and EMG data allow close comparison between involuntary movements in the course of Meige syndrome and idiopathic hemifacial spasm.
