We present what, to our knowledge, is the first reported case of nephrogenic metaplasia of the ureter. Nephrogenic metaplasia involves the transitional epithelium of the urinary tract and results in the formation of epithelial tubules, which are histologically similar to renal tubules. Special stains demonstrated both intracellular and intraluminal mucin. Ultrastructurally, the lesion consisted of epithelial cells with sparse microvilli and a thick basal lamina. The criteria for diagnosis and differentiation from carcinoma are discussed.

An unusual case of syringosquamous metaplasia of the eccrine ducts caused by cytomegalovirus (CMV) is presented. The patient was HIV positive and had extensive excoriation of the perineum and vulva. Biopsy revealed the presence of herpes simplex virus (HSV) inclusions in the necrotic exudate, a CMV vasculitis and extensive involvement of the eccrine ducts. A retrospective analysis of 34 successive splenectomies in 137 patients with myelofibrosis was carried out. Indications, complications, and response to splenectomy were compared between 22 patients with agnogenic myeloid metaplasia (AMM) and 12 patients with postpolycythemic myeloid metaplasia (PPMM). Lipomatous metaplasia is characterized by substitution of muscle fibers with adipose tissue in the context of a myocardial scar. Cardiac magnetic resonance is an accurate cardiac imaging technique with high tissue spatial resolution that can easily characterize scar tissue, adipose tissue and lipomatous metaplasia. We report a case of lipomatous metaplasia in a 68-year-old man with a 14-year history of anterior myocardial infarction admitted to our cardiac department for dyspnea and palpitations.

In a man aged 62 years with a 14-year-history of polycythaemia vera progressing into a myelofibrotic stage symptoms and signs of an intracranial tumour with increased intracranial pressure developed. CT scan as well as angiography of the right internal carotid artery revealed richly vascularized masses within the meninges.
