Giant Centrifugal Miliaria Profunda.

Miliaria profunda is due to duct obstruction and rupture below the epidermis, with dermal sweat leakage associated and a variable inflammatory reaction. A rare but distinct presentation of miliaria profunda in infants is named giant centrifugal miliaria profunda (GCMP), showing centrifugal expansion of large, annular plaques. On histology, GCMP shows hyperkeratosis with ortho- and parakeratosis, and acanthosis with foci of intercellular edema. Acrosyringia are distended with obstruction by eosinophilic plugs of ortho-parakeratotic material. Dermal ducts appear dilated and show squamous metapla…

Giant centrifugal miliaria profunda.

A 4-month-old developed rapidly enlarging, white plaques up to several centimeters in diameter in areas where occlusive tape had been applied, almost all on the sites of venous or arterial punctures. Microscopy demonstrated the features of miliaria profunda, with sweat duct occlusion and evidence of extravasation of sweat into the dermis. This clinical entity has not been described previously, and we suggest the name giant centrifugal miliaria profunda.

[Fox-Fordyce disease (apocrine miliaria)].

A 1-year follow-up in a 12 year old girl suffering from Fox-Fordyce disease is reported. Reddish papules were found in the typical locations in the regions with a high density of apocrine glands. A biopsy specimen showed keratin plugs in the infundibula of apocrine glands. Since hormone therapy could not yet be given, external therapy only was performed, with good results.

Neonatal Miliaria Pustulosa-A Case Series.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Miliaria pustulosa is a noninfectious, transient skin eruption of pustules overlying erythematous plaques secondary to obstruction of eccrine glands. There are very few case reports in the literature detailing miliaria pustulosa in neonates. When presenting in neonates, its similarity to life-threatening infections may cause diagnostic confusion. By differentiating this condition from similar presentations, unnecessary treatments and tests in this population may be avoided. METHODS: Retrospective review of the medical records of nine neonates presenting with a pustular …
