A foodborne outbreak of streptococcal pharyngitis occurred in association with a meeting of regional blood banking personnel held at a hotel in Kansas City, Missouri, on May 31-June 1, 1984. The incriminated meal was a salad buffet luncheon served on May 31. Of 106 persons identified as eating the luncheon, 60 (56.6 per cent) became ill. The most probable source of infection was an assortment of mousse desserts (p = 0.0532).

Paragonimiasis is an infection caused by lung flukes of the genus Paragonimus. In Asia, P. westermani infections are relatively common because of dietary practices. However, in North America, cases of paragonimiasis, which are caused by P. kellicotti flukes, are rare. Only 7 autochthonous cases of paragonimiasis were reported during 1968-2008. While the prevalence of human pathogens has been quantified in ticks in Adair County, Missouri, the prevalence of residents acquiring tick-borne diseases and seeking medical treatment has not. Nutritional assessment of white persons over 59 who participated in the 1973 Missouri Nutrition Survey was based upon biochemical measurements, dietary intakes using food frequency histories, anthropometric measurements, and a dental examination. There were three major nutritionally related problems: poor dental health, obesity, and anemia. La Crosse virus (LACV), a California serogroup bunyavirus, is a leading cause of pediatric arboviral encephalitis in the United States and is transmitted primarily by the eastern treehole mosquito (Aedes triseriatus). A 10-y-old, castrated male Boxer dog that was born and had lived in Missouri without any travel history to other states, except for a few trips to Kansas, was presented with a distended abdomen and declined health. We describe a case of a 46-year-old man in Missouri, USA, with newly diagnosed advanced HIV and PCR-confirmed mpox keratitis. The keratitis initially resolved after intravenous tecovirimat and penicillin for suspected ocular syphilis coinfection. Despite a confirmatory negative PCR, he developed relapsed, ipsilateral PCR-positive keratitis and severe ocular mpox requiring corneal transplant.

This study investigated prostate cancer screening practices using prostate specific antigen testing (PSA), digital rectal examination (DRE), and transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) by primary care physicians in Missouri. A study was performed to evaluate the prenatal components of the Missouri Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program.
