Disorders of the nail unit can provide important clues to underlying systemic diseases. Onychodystrophy or nail abnormalities include altered nail color, shape, or texture with morphology and growth patterns often related to local anatomic factors such as edema, vascular supply, and neurologic innervation. Associated pain or loss-of-function can also affect daily activities. Because nail changes may be due to a range of systemic diseases, the authors provide a systems-based broad overview of the common nail findings in patients with internal disease.

Incontinentia pigmenti is a rare genodermatosis in which the skin involvement occurs in all patients. Additionally, other ectodermal tissues may be affected such as the central nervous system, eyes, hair, nails and teeth. The disease has an X-linked dominant inheritance pattern. But in our case, there was a mutation in the body cells due to incontinentia pigmenti. The dermatological findings occur in four successive phases. BACKGROUND: The measurements of width index, height index, and curvature index were used for assessment of the curvature severity. Nevertheless, both sides of the nail root are buried subcutaneously, impossibility in measuring the width index correctly.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We developed a technique to measure the index under high-frequency ultrasonography (HF-USG).
RESULTS: There was good agreement between the HF-USG index and the result examined after surgery.
CONCLUSION: The observation on HF-USG helps to distinguish between ingrown nail and pincer nail. The HF-USG index will be useful

Patients with partially destroyed fingernails tend to hide them, and such patients often do not find help because fingernails are considered of little functional value. To improve the aesthetic appearance of such nails, a simple excision of the destroyed nail matrix can stimulate the growth of the residual healthy matrix and regenerate the nail. Prerequisite is a healthy nail residue of at least the lunula.
