Factor analysis and construct validity of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory.

Three studies are reported which provide evidence for the validity of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI). Factor analysis of the NPI in Study 1 revealed four factors which were labelled: Exploitativeness/Entitlement, Leadership/Authority, Superiority/Arrogance, and Self-absorption/Self-admiration. In Study 2, scores on the NPI were correlated with basic dimensions of personality, and with relevant self-variables. Narcissism scores were positively related to dominance, exhibitionism, extraversion, self-esteem, and self-monitoring, among others; and negatively related to abasement, def

The Inventory of Personality Organization: A valid instrument to detect the severity of personality dysfunction.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: In the eleventh revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), the severity of personality dysfunction became the central dimension of personality disorder's (PDs) definition, besides the trait domain qualifiers. Personality functioning, also known as personality organization (PO), is becoming an increasingly important concept in administering, predicting, and measuring severity and nature of personality disturbance. Otto Kernberg and his team developed several tools to measure personality impairment. The Inventory of Personality Organization (IPO) is a

Personality profile of the primary blepharospasm (BSP): An investigation using the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.

OBJECTIVE: To explore whether patients with blepharospasm (BSP) have abnormal personality traits by the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) questionnaire. METHOD: The personality profiles of patients with BSP and its relationship with clinical characteristics were assessed in this research. 46 patients with BSP and 33 age-and-gender matched healthy controls were assessed using the MMPI questionnaire. The scores of three validity scales and ten clinical scales were calculated and compared. Then the relationship between those scales and clinical characteristics of patients with B

Dimensional clinical personality inventory-2: investigating key factors on the assessment of dependent personality disorder.

Dimensional literature reinforces the relevance of specific Dependent personality disorder (DPD) traits, as submissiveness, insecurity and avoidance of abandonment. In this paper we measured these traits through the Dimensional Clinical Personality Inventory-2 (IDCP-2). This study aims to verify the capacity of IDCP-2 factors to discriminate and predict DPD related symptoms. From a dataset with 4,503, a total of 305 people was divided in three groups: the community group (n = 200), the non-DPD group (N = 84), and the DPD group (n = 21). We administered six factors from IDCP-2, Insecurity, Aban

Personality assessment with Temperament and Character Inventory in Parkinson's disease.

INTRODUCTION: There is a growing interest in personality evaluation in Parkinson's disease (PD), following observations of specific temperaments in PD patients. Therefore, our objective was to evaluate personality dimensions from the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) in a cohort of fluctuating PD patients considered for deep brain stimulation. METHODS: Fluctuating PD patients from the PREDISTIM cohort were included. Description of TCI dimensions and comparison with a French normative cohort were performed. Pearson correlations between TCI dimensions and motor, behavioral and cognitive

Psychometrics of the Chinese Inventory of Personality Organization (IPO-CH).

The present study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese Inventory of Personality Organization (IPO-CH). The IPO-CH was administered to a sample of 336 Chinese undergraduates, and, among them, 125 participants completed the survey 2 months later. Results showed that the IPO-CH has adequate internal consistency (Cronbach's α = .95) and test-retest reliability (r = .60). Exploratory factor analysis did not replicate the original five-factor model but suggested a four-factor model. The IPO-CH manifested good concurrent validity and convergent validity concerning the severity

Diagnosis of personality disorders by the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory.

The diagnostic efficiency of the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory (MCMI) was examined with regard to the diagnosis of DSM-III axis II personality disorders by practicing psychiatrists. The MCMI displayed fairly good sensitivity but poor specificity and predictive power regarding the diagnosis of any personality disorder. Two possible explanations were offered: a) axis I psychopathology inflates scores on the MCMI personality disorder scales and causes an overdiagnosis of personality disorders by the test; or b) there is an under-recognition of axis II personality disorders (especially in t

Danish translation and cultural adaption of the Person-Centred Practice Inventory-Staff and Person-Centred Practice Inventory-Care questionnaires.

BACKGROUND: Internationally, person-centred practice is a recognized standard of quality care influencing the experience of care for healthcare professionals, service users, families and care partners. To measure the experience from the perspectives of both caregivers and patients, the instruments Person-Centred Practice Inventory-Staff (PCPI-S) and the Person-Centred Practice Inventory-Care (PCPI-C) have been developed, which are both theoretically aligned with McCormack and McCance's person-centred framework. In this paper, we present translation and cultural adaption of the questionnaires i

Personality disorder and the Temperament and Character Inventory in the elderly.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of personality disorders in a group of elderly patients without an organic mental disorder and to examine the relationship between the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI) and personality disorder symptoms in psychogeriatric clinical practice. METHOD: A total of 91 subjects completed the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-III-R personality questionnaire and the 125-item TCI. RESULTS: Of the 91 subjects, 34 individuals (31%) had at least one DSM-III-R personality disorder diagnosis, with avoidant, dependent and paranoid

Construction of item-level scales from the Personality Assessment Inventory to assess levels of personality functioning.

The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders (DSM-5; American Psychiatric Association, 2013) introduced the clinician-rated Levels of Personality Functioning Scale (LPFS) as an indicator of general personality functioning based on four elements: Identity, Self-Direction, Empathy, and Intimacy. Construct validation strategies were employed to select and evaluate items from the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI; Morey, 2007) to measure the four elements of the LPFS. In Study 1, conceptual ratings of PAI items produced lists of candidate items for the four e

Measurement invariance of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 across sex.

INTRODUCTION: There has been an international movement towards dimensional models of personality disorders (PDs) in the last decades, which culminated in the publication of the Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (AMPD) in the Emerging Measures and Models section of the DSM-5. This model was accompanied by a APA-sanctioned Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5) for the assessment of the AMPD pathological personality traits. One major issue with the assessment of personality disorders pertains to sex differences, and measurement invariance across sex in assessment instruments for PDs is

Cross-Cultural Measurement Invariance in the Personality Inventory for DSM-5✰.

The validity of cross-cultural comparisons of test scores requires that scores have the same meaning across cultures, which is usually tested by checking the invariance of the measurement model across groups. In the last decade, a large number of studies were conducted to verify the equivalence across cultures of the dimensional Alternative Model of Personality Disorders (DSM-5 Section III). These studies have provided information on configural invariance (i.e., the facets that compose the domains are the same) and metric invariance (i.e., facet-domain relationships are equal across groups), b

An Integrative Analysis of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory and the Hypomanic Personality Scale: Implications for Construct Validity.

The primary goal of this study was to explicate the construct validity of the Narcissistic Personality Inventory (NPI) and the Hypomanic Personality Scale (HPS) by examining their relations both to each other and to measures of personality and psychopathology in a community sample ( N = 255). Structural evidence indicates that the NPI is defined by Leadership/Authority, Grandiose Exhibitionism, and Entitlement/Exploitativeness factors, whereas the HPS is characterized by specific dimensions reflecting Social Vitality, Mood Volatility, and Excitement. Our results establish that (a) factor-based

Dataset yielded by an assessment of personality disorders among young French adults using the Inventory of Personality Organization.

Data on personality disorders in young French adults were collected using the validated French version of the Inventory of Personality Organization (IPO-fr). Respondents also completed the Personality Diagnostic Questionnaire-4th Edition (PDQ-4+). The sample comprised 607 students aged 18-26 years enrolled on a variety of courses at Angers University (France). Of these, 170 had a personality disorder according to the PDQ-4+, and their data were used to define IPO cut-off scores for Cluster A, B or C personality disorders. The data are stored in a comma-separated value format that can be easily

The underlying structure of the Personality Inventory for DSM-5 (PID-5): a general factor of personality psychopathology.

BACKGROUND: The psychopathology of personality is currently undergoing a paradigm shift from a categorical to a dimensional approach. This work aimed to study the underlying structure of pathological personality traits of the DSM-5 Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD). For this purpose, the internal structure of a version of the Personality Inventory for the DSM-5 (PID-5) was examined by a confirmatory factor analysis. This version assesses the five higher-order pathological personality domains (negative affectivity, detachment, antagonism, disinhibition, and psychoticism) and th
