The influence of angioplasty balloon sizing on acute post-procedural outcomes: a Finite Element Analysis.

Atherosclerosis is one of the most common vascular pathologies in the world. Among the most commonly performed endovascular treatments, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) has been showing significantly positive clinical outcomes. Due to the complex geometries, material properties and interactions that characterize PTA procedures, finite element analyses of acute angioplasty balloon deployment are limited. In this work, finite element method (FEM) was used to simulate the inflation and deflation of a semi-compliant balloon within the 3D model of a stenosed artery with two different pla

The use of an existing cast post and core as an anchor for extrusive movement.

PURPOSE: This article describes an original solution for a tooth with an existing cast post and core placed subgingivally. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The tooth was erupted rapidly using a simplified and easy technique that incorporates fiberotomy during the process of movement. RESULTS: The distal finish line of the core, which was subgingival before movement onset, was elevated, allowing the placement of crown margins on sound tooth structure. Clinical evaluation of the tooth after a period of 4 weeks, during which a provisional acrylic resin crown was used for retention, showed no need for cor

Influence of alveolar bone level on the pull-out bond strength of fiber-reinforced composite posts to root dentin.

This in vitro study evaluated the influence of alveolar bone level and type of cement on pull-out bond strength between different fiber-reinforced composite (FRC) posts and root dentin. Sixty bovine teeth were sectioned, and their root canals were prepared. The specimens were divided into 6 groups (n = 10) according to 2 factors: alveolar bone level and type of cement. Each root was embedded in acrylic resin to the depth of 7, 10, or 14 mm, simulating different alveolar bone levels. After the FRC posts were treated with 37% phosphoric acid and silane was applied, they were cemented with either

Restoration of endodontically treated teeth using a CAD-CAM custom post-and-core system: A direct-indirect digital workflow for post space acquisition.

A technique for restoring an endodontically treated tooth with a computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) custom post-and-core systems is described. The presented digital workflow streamlined post space digitization by integrating intraoral and extraoral scanning, enabling the subsequent design and fabrication of custom post-and-cores. The direct-indirect technique can be applied for overcoming challenges associated with digital post space acquisition arising from anatomic or technical limitations.

Single-Tooth Rehabilitation Combining Root Displacement and Crown Lengthening Two-Year Follow-Up: A Case Report.

Rehabilitation of an extensively compromised single anterior tooth represents an intriguing challenge for dentists, particularly when the rehabilitation involves esthetic, psychosocial, and functional requirements. The success in rehabilitating a patient with a conservative approach depends on a critical evaluation of the remaining structures, precise treatment plan, systematic treatment strategies, and patient compliance. In this case, the patient's chief complaint was the undesirable appearance of the maxillary right lateral, caused by the displacement of the post and crown. Clinical examina

Influence of automatic exposure compensation tool of digital radiographic systems on the diagnosis of periapical lesions in teeth restored with metal post.

OBJECTIVE: Automatic exposure compensation (AEC) in digital radiographic systems adjusts the greyscale values of the image to correct for underexposure or overexposure, ensuring consistent image brightness and contrast. High-density materials, such as metal posts, can trigger greyscale correction promoted by AEC, potentially influencing radiographic diagnosis. This study aimed to assess whether the enhancement of AEC in endodontically treated tooth restored with metal post affects the detection of simulated periapical lesions using different digital radiographic systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS

Coexistence of horizontal bone loss and dehiscence with the bundle and conventional fiber post: a finite element analysis.

Horizontal bone loss (HBL) and dehiscence are common supportive tissue defects. This study evaluated the stress distribution in the presence of HBL or dehiscence and two types of fiber posts. Twelve premolars that were endodontically treated (Model-E), restored with conventional (Model-C), and bundle (Model-B) post were modeled. Bone defects were created as control (Model-1), with 4 mm (Model-4) and 8 mm (Model-8) HBL, and dehiscence involving two-thirds of the root (Model-D). HBL was included in all aspects of the models, while dehiscence was confined to the buccal aspect. The models were sub
