Povidone iodine (PI), a skin antiseptic, is sometimes used internally but this procedure exposes to potentially lethal iodine absorption. A 50-year-old man developed numerous pustules and bullae on the trunk and limbs 15 days after anal fissure surgery. The clinicopathological diagnosis was iododerma induced by topical povidone-iodine sitz baths postoperatively. Complete resolution occurred within 3 weeks using systemic corticosteroids and forced diuresis.

We present a case of asystole due to anaphylactoid reaction after vaginal disinfection with povidone iodine under epidural anesthesia combined with general anesthesia. A 71-year-old woman was scheduled to undergo total cystectomy due to vesical cancer, invading into the wall of the vagina. Povidone-iodine is frequently instilled on to the conjunctival surface prior to intraocular surgery in order to prevent septic endophthalmitis.
