On the mapping of time-dependent densities onto potentials in quantum mechanics.

The mapping of time-dependent densities on potentials in systems of identical quantum mechanical particles is examined. This mapping is of significance ever since Runge and Gross [Phys. Rev. Lett. 52, 997 (1984)] established its uniqueness, forming the theoretical basis for time-dependent density functional theory. Beyond uniqueness there are two important issues: existence, often called v-representability, and stability. We show that v-representability for localized densities in turn-on situations is not assured and we give a simple example of nonexistence. As for stability, we discuss an inv

Quantum mechanics-guided parameterization enhances molecular dynamics accuracy for flavonoid-membrane biophysical properties.

Understanding how small molecule parameterization influences the outcomes of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations is crucial for accurately m … ne. We compared an analogy-based approach using CHARMM General Force Field (CGenFF ver. 4.0) with a quantum mechanics (QM)-based optimization protocol using Force Field Toolkit (ffTK). The results of in vitro experiments to assess changes in membrane dipole potential were compared with corresponding changes observed in MD simulations. Elastic properties of the memb …

Quantum statistical mechanics: Gauge invariance, operator shifting, hyperdensity functionals, and nonequilibrium sum rules.

We provide an extended account of the recent statistical mechanical theory of gauge invariance against operator shifting in quantum many-body systems [J. Müller and M. Schmidt, Phys. Rev. E 114, L022104 (2026)10.1103/dzz3-m28k]. The gauge transformation is enacted by a shifting superoperator that displaces the fundamental position and momentum degrees of freedom. The shifting superoperator constitutes a map between Hilbert space operators, and it features Lie algebra commutator structure. Averages of general observables remain invariant under the shifting both in and out of thermal equilibrium

Theoretical modeling of large molecular systems. Advances in the local self consistent field method for mixed quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics calculations.

Molecular mechanics methods can efficiently compute the macroscopic properties of a large molecular system but cannot represent the electron … tion of the whole system described at the molecular mechanical level, a strategy known as the mixed quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) approach. The accuracy of this embedding varies according to the types of interactions included, whether they are purely mechanical or classically electrostatic. This embedding can also introduce the induced polarization …

A quantum mechanics-based scoring function: study of zinc ion-mediated ligand binding.

In this communication, we report the development of a novel quantum mechanics-based scoring function to predict free energy of ligand binding in the zinc metalloenzymes carbonic anhydrase (CA) and carboxypeptidase A (CPA). In particular, the AM1 method is used in conjunction with solvation modeling to predict the relative binding affinities of 18 CA and 5 CPA inhibitors. The effect of metal-ligand charge transfer is also discussed and shown to be different in CPA and CA, providing a further challenge to computing metalloenzyme binding affinities.

CO2 adsorption in natural deep eutectic solvents: insights from quantum mechanics and molecular dynamics.

CO2 capture is an important process for mitigating CO2 emissions in the atmosphere. Recently, ionic liquids have been identified as possible … carbon dioxide capture in systems composed of L-arginine and glycerol using molecular dynamics and quantum mechanics simulations. Our findings indicate that, although both arginine and glycerol contain multiple atoms capable of acting as hydrogen bond donors and hydrogen bond acceptors, L-arginine primarily functions as the hydrogen bond acceptor while glycerol se …

A Differential-Geometric Approach to Quantum Ignorance Consistent with Entropic Properties of Statistical Mechanics.

In this paper, we construct the metric tensor and volume for the manifold of purifications associated with an arbitrary reduced density operator ρS. We also define a quantum coarse-graining (CG) to study the volume where macrostates are the manifolds of purifications, which we call surfaces of ignorance (SOI), and microstates are the purifications of ρS. In this context, the volume functions as a multiplicity of the macrostates that quantifies the amount of information missing from ρS. Using examples where the SOI are generated using representations of SU(2), SO(3), and SO(N), we show two feat

Predicting skin sensitization potency for Michael acceptors in the LLNA using quantum mechanics calculations.

This study outlines the development of a series of quantitative mechanistic models enabling skin sensitization potency in the LLNA to be predicted for direct acting Michael acceptors. These models utilized several computational descriptors based on knowledge of the Michael addition reaction mechanism. The key descriptor was calculated using density functional theory and modeled the stability of the reaction intermediate. A second descriptor relating to the available surface area at the site of the reaction was also found to be important. Several poorly predicted compounds were identified, and

New generalization of supersymmetric quantum mechanics to arbitrary dimensionality or number of distinguishable particles.

We present here a new approach to generalize supersymmetric quantum mechanics to treat multiparticle and multidimensional systems. We do this by introducing a vector superpotential in an orthogonal hyperspace. In the case of N distinguishable particles in three dimensions this results in a vector superpotential with 3N orthogonal components. The original scalar Schrödinger operator can be factored using a 3N-component gradient operator and introducing vector "charge" operators: Q(1) and Q(1)(dagger). Using these operators, we can write the original (scalar) Hamiltonian as H(1) = Q(1)(dagger) x…

Quantum Generative Diffusion Model: A Fully Quantum-Mechanical Model for Generating Quantum State Ensemble.

Mixed quantum states are the native description of many physically important quantum systems, making their generation a fundamental task in quantum information processing. However, constructing a diffusion process that generates density operators while keeping every reverse step physically valid remains nontrivial. This work introduces Quantum Generative Diffusion Model (QGDM), a fully quantum-mechanical model whose forward and backward processes are grounded in quantum channel theory. Through a non-unitary forward process, any target quantum state can be transformed into a completely mixed st

Mechanism of Regio- and Enantioselective Hydroxylation of Arachidonic Acid Catalyzed by Human CYP2E1: A Combined Molecular Dynamics and Quantum Mechanics/Molecular Mechanics Study.

Regio- and enantioselective hydroxylation of free fatty acids by human cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) plays an important role in metabolic regulation and has significant pathological implications. Despite extensive research, the detailed hydroxylation mechanism of CYP2E1 remains incompletely understood. To clarify the origins of regioselectivity and enantioselectivity observed for CYP2E1-mediated fatty acid hydroxylation, molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) calculations were performed. MD simulations provided key insights into the proximity of ar…

Quantum statistical mechanical gauge invariance.

We address gauge invariance in the statistical mechanics of quantum many-body systems. The gauge transformation acts on the position and momentum degrees of freedom, and it is represented by a quantum shifting superoperator that maps quantum observables onto each other. The shifting superoperator is anti-self-adjoint, and it has noncommutative Lie algebra structure. These properties induce exact equilibrium sum rules that connect locally resolved force and hyperforce densities for any given observable. We argue that the framework is amenable to tight integration into quantum hyperdensity funct

Grand canonical equilibrium unifies quantum electrodynamics and statistical mechanics in wet electrolytic environments at room temperature.

Quantum rate (QR) theory has previously shown that the charge-relaxation resistance of ferrocene redox monolayers is locked at Rq = h/2e2 ≈ 12.9 kΩ at room temperature, and that electron-transfer rates are accessible from equilibrium quantum capacitance without kinetic fitting. What has remained without a first-principles thermodynamic explanation is why a room-temperature ionic bath sustains rather than destroys quantum coherence. Here, we provide that mechanism. By applying the fluctuation-dissipation theorem to the grand canonical equilibrium of an electrochemical junction, we show that min

Atomistic insight into chondroitin-6-sulfate glycosaminoglycan chain through quantum mechanics calculations and molecular dynamics simulation.

Chondroitin-6-sulfate (C6S) is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) constituent in the extracellular matrix, which participates actively in crucial biological processes, as well as in various pathological conditions, such as atherosclerosis and cancer. Molecular interactions involving the C6S chain are therefore of considerable interest. A computational model for atomistic simulation was built. This work describes the design and validation of a force field for a C6S dodecasaccharide chain. The results of an extensive molecular dynamics simulation performed with the new force field provide a novel insight

Quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics studies on the excited-state decay mechanisms of cytidine aza-analogues: 5-azacytidine and 2'-deoxy-5-azacytidine in aqueous solution.

The excited state properties and deactivation pathways of two DNA methylation inhibitors, i.e., 5-azacytidine (5ACyd) and 2'-deoxy-5-azacytidine (5AdCyd) in aqueous solution, are comprehensively explored with the QM(CASPT2//CASSCF)/MM protocol. We systematically map the feasible decay mechanisms based on the obtained excited-state decay paths involving all the identified minimum-energy structures, conical intersections, and crossing points driving the different internal conversion (IC) and intersystem crossing (ISC) routes in and between the 1ππ*, 1nπ*, 3ππ*, 3nπ*, and S0 states.
