[Radio-anatomy of uterine malformations].

33 cases of uterine anomalies were studied from the external morphological point of views as well as by hysterography. These cases were grouped according to R. Mussel's classification (1964) which is itself the synthesis of radiological and anatomical investigations.

[Radio-carpal amputation and prosthesis].

Radio-carpal amputation was rejected for a long time because of the difficulties of fitting both myoelectrical and mechanical prostheses, only allowing a purely aesthetic prosthesis. As a result of miniaturization of control systems and the progress in computers, we believe that this now constitutes the best site for amputation whenever it is possible. Preservation of the antero-posterior bony contours of the radius allows the use of short sockets attached by a system of clips. In this way, flexion-extension of the elbow is left free and the movements of pronation and supination can be used. L…

[Gastroduodenal invagination. Radio-endoscopic aspects].

Gastroduodenal intussusception is a very rare entity and is generally associated with benign tumor of the stomach. We report a new case of central gastroduodenal intussusception related to schwannoma. We emphasize the radiologic features which can be misinterpreted as well as the endoscopic aspect hitherto unreported.

Radio theranostics in paragangliomas and pheochromocytomas.

This continuing education aims to present in a clear and easy-to-understand manner the biology of paragangliomas and pheochromocytomas (PPGLs), the functional imaging studies available for their diagnosis and therapeutic planning, the requirements necessary to administer radioligand therapy (RLT) and the characteristics of these treatments (inclusion criteria, administration protocols, adverse effects and future perspectives). In this pathology we have two RLT options: [131I]MIBG and [177Lu]Lu-DOTA-TATE. The indication for treatment is determined by the expression of its therapeutic target in …

Melatonin as a Radio-Sensitizer in Cancer.

Radiotherapy is one of the treatments of choice in many types of cancer. Adjuvant treatments to radiotherapy try, on one hand, to enhance the response of tumor cells to radiation and, on the other hand, to reduce the side effects to normal cells. Radiosensitizers are agents that increase the effect of radiation in tumor cells by trying not to increase side effects in normal tissues. Melatonin is a hormone produced mainly by the pineal gland which has an important role in the regulation of cancer growth, especially in hormone-dependent mammary tumors. Different studies have showed that melatoni…

[Radio- and chemotherapy of cancer of the esophagus].

Surgical resection has been the mainstay of therapy for localised carcinoma of the oesophagus. However, the five-year survival rate after curative resection is only 20 to 30%, and other treatments have been tried to improve these results. Radiotherapy, chemotherapy and sequential or combined chemoradiotherapy have been used, either alone or in combination with surgery. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy do not improve survival and are restricted to very limited cases. Results of exclusive combined chemoradiotherapy are very similar to those of surgery, with five-year survival rate of 20%. The promi…

Radiological radio-carpal and mid-carpal motion after operative treatment of dorsal radio-carpal fracture dislocations.

PURPOSE: Radio-carpal fracture dislocations are rare severe injuries typically seen following high energy trauma. This injury is characterized by complete dislocation of the radio-carpal joint with avulsion fracture of dorsal or palmar cortical rim of the distal radius combined with disruption of the radio-carpal ligament complex. The purpose of our study is to assess the radiological motion outcome of the radio-carpal joint after Moneim type 1 radio-carpal fracture dislocations following surgical treatment. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Only Moneim type 1 injuries were included in this study. Eight …

Neck Masses: Clinico-Radio-Pathological Evaluation.

Schizophrenia is generally a chronic and disabling mental illness. Pharmacological therapy, which is used for relief of acute psychotic episodes and prevention of subsequent relapse, is essential for the effective management of schizophrenia. In order to alleviate the positive symptoms of schizophrenia, all antipsychotic agents act on the dopaminergic system. However, strong, high-affinity dopamine D(2)-receptor blockade may also be responsible for debilitating extrapyramidal symptoms (EPS) and hyperprolactinaemia. Unlike conventional antipsychotic agents, atypical antipsychotics also exert ac

[Post-traumatic proximal radio-ulnar synostosis].

The posttraumatic synostosis between radius and ulna is one of a rare but grave complication in case of forearm-fracture. Only a few successful treated case-reports are described. This case reports upon a young man with a second-degree open elbow-joint-debris-fracture. Following a proximal radio-ulnar-synostosis happened. Eight months posttraumatic the radio-ulnar-synostosis was operatively eliminated. Subsequent an intermediate dura-cuff was implanted after partial resection of the membrana interossea.

Congenital radio-ulnar synostosis: surgical treatment.

The results of an operative approach to the problem of radio-ulnar synostosis were assessed in thirteen patients, ten to twenty-five and one-half years after the procedure was performed. We concluded that in a patient with bilateral synostosis one hand, the one not used in writing, should be shifted to a position of 20 to 35 degrees of supination. With one hand in this position, the other may be left in considerable pronation. Often after such a shift it is not necessary to rotate the second arm. However, if the pronation is marked in the second forearm, and if function is impaired unduly by t…
